Gavin Newsom invites world's homeless to California

California Gov. Gavin Newsom pledged to house and feed the world’s homeless population this week during a whirlwind “Comeback California” tour that is designed to stave off a September recall by angry voters.

Great read about "The California Dream" is for everyone. "Newsom pointed to an $80 billion budget surplus that he said is enough money to help all achieve the American dream " .....

I was born in CA (Los Angeles) and lived my entire life in Southern California. I've visited quite a few other parts of the country and couldn't see myself living anywhere else at this point, 53 years old. Possibly in retirement, but there really isn't anywhere else that appeals to me, other than possibly Hawaii.

I can't deal with the humidity in Florida, wouldn't want to live anyplace that has a true winter season (snow), it's just hard to beat what we have here as far as weather, variety of things to do, etc.

Yes, we pay a premium for all of this. However, wages are nearly proportional to the costs of living of the rest of the country, there is some premium for housing. Other things are actually less expensive for us based on the higher wages...the price of a car doesn't vary by much from location to location around the country. Therefore, a car is less expensive for someone in a higher wage area as a percentage of annual income.

As others have said here, every locale has it's share of natural disasters...hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, etc. so there is no hiding from all of them.

Do we have issues, of course, just like everywhere else...crime, homelessness, etc. You might not find that in rural areas, but they are giving of some of the things that make living in the suburbs great...entertainment, restaurants, etc. There is a place for every lifestyle, and you can't fault someone for choosing where they choose.

Where is he “housing” them?

Last time I checked most of them are living in parks and green spaces, starting wildfires.

CA bought motels and hotels at X3 what they were really worth and have been housing them there. The state is also going straight through Marriott and paying them to house the homeless.

All I know is when I move from CA to your state, you can rest assured I wont be bringing California politics with me.

I agree with the OP, CA has transformed for the worst in the last 20 years.

Ok so I do not quite understand.

Let us accept CA is expensive, dangerous, filthy, poor infrastructure....etc etc and people are migrating elsewhere.
However real estate values are crazy because of demand, surely for every person/party leaving there are more wanting to live there (demand>supply), otherwise values decline, homes stay vacant etc etc. That appears not to be happening

Or you could do some research and realize many of these properties are being bought up by the Chinese who never step a foot in them. Our house in Yorba Linda was one of them. Paid over a million in cash and the house looked like a $150k crack house in Fontana after one year. Sure they may rent them out to those folks that want to live there.

I find the arrogance and ignorance of the “California lifers” to be so funny. They have to sell themselves through all the negatives for the one positive to live there and that is the weather. Get out and explore folks. Luckily for work I got to travel all over the country and see, meet and talk to other folks that actually live outside of California. They are happy, stress free and live a great life. Having seasons is not a bad thing. Ca isn’t the only place that pays well and has plenty of jobs. You all keep telling yourselves it is the only place to live and work. We actually like it that way so the crazy ass people that created that disaster stay right there and don’t come voting and messing up the rest of the country.

By the way anywhere in the Carribean is better weather than San Diego. San Diego isn’t that nice in the winter.

I've never been to California but whenever I see it referred to I can't help but think of Los Santos from Grand Theft Auto V. I imagine it's just like that.

I wonder why people even care so much where and why we love it here.

Seems to be a lot of emotion or an agenda going on here.

Like I said, people that leave here always seem to act like jilted lovers.

Live where you like and are happy.
