Icon5 Are Engagement Watches The New Engagement Rings?

"Show us your ring!" It's a phrase that couples often get asked after getting engaged, and for good reason. Engagement rings have been a symbol of commitment for ages, and they're a way to tell the world that you're officially off the market.

But some couples are flipping the script and opting for a different piece of jewelry to symbolize their intent to marry. Engagement watches have been flying quietly under the radar for a while, but they seem to be gaining traction.

We were curious to know: Is this a lasting trend or simply a passing craze? So TMRW reached out to some style experts to get their thoughts on engagement watches and whether they think the timepiece trend is here to stay.

Good for significant gifts other than marriage engagements in my opinion.

I got engaged back in 2006 and gave my fiancé a ring. In return she gave me an omega sea master so I would have a token too. That doesn’t happen often enough IMO. In these times of equality why should it just be one way traffic i.e. the guy does the gifting.

Know a guy who bought his omega sea master at the same time as his then fiancé’s ring

another who’s now wife bought him a planet ocean as his engagement gift

Omega sits just right in terms of quality/ price & of course availability

Me too. Engaged in 2001, I gave a ring and she gave me a TT Sub. More importantly, she wanted to give me the watch and considered it fair gifting. I still have the Sub just like she still has the same ring, wore it daily for 17 years.

Walked the plank in 2009. Did the traditional ring thing, but I also bought her a TT DJ for a wedding present.

I do t think it’s either or but rather, more people might be looking at watches as a significant purchase to make for their future bride/groom.

The ring isn’t going anywhere

We live in a bubble here on the forums. Some (younger generation) are opting out of engagement tokens all together or only spending very small sums. One research study indicated 2/3 of gen z and millennials think a ring should cost under 2500 bucks and 1/4 of that same generation think they will never get married.

I think it’s an awesome idea to further remember the big day.

I did the traditional engagement ring but also bought us matching Royal oaks for our wedding day. AP also helped me book part of our honeymoon in Geneva and La Brassus for a private tour, celebratory dinner, etc. They were first class and still appreciate the most amazing memories for both of us.

Wish engagement watches was a thing so she could have gotten me one. All I got as a surprise for our wedding was her brothers student debt.
