Incoming!

Nearing the end of a three week long awaited trip to Japan and decided to get a vintage watch as a souvenir. Had to go with Seiko.

I don’t know much about the watch, other than it’s from the 60s, and when released was the thinnest automatic watch in the world until citizen overtook it shortly after. I love the curve tips of the hands, the silky silver dial, and the understated markers.

I’ve never liked gold on a watch, nor have I considered sub 40mm sizes, however on a vintage watch this makes sense to me. The small size brings out the elegant quality of the gold for me, without the flashiness.

I’m thinking I will do this more often, commemorate an occasion with an out of character vintage watch. I’m not spending a ton of money on these so might as well experiment with different styles.

If you are ever in Japan, Nakano is a great place for gray market new watches, however uemo is where it’s at, great vintage watches. I saw an old Rolex explorer for under 2,000, and a beautiful 60s stainless stele iwc (not abbreviated in the dual) for under 1k

One more pic. The hour hand just perfectly aligned with the 10 marker struck me as particularly beautiful

That looks like a great example..I'll bet it still runs well, too. I have an advert for one in an old Japan travel magazine, from 1962. If you have the serial number (probably inside the caseback on this piece) it can tell you the month and year of production.
