Are You Tradesmen Across on this Forum Busy? Paul?

This region (NE USA, The Burgh) is busy with vault preventive maintenance stuff and the usual.

I committed to a two day'r way down south of here and the bad thoughts poured into my head being a one-man-shoe.

The phone's gonna ring, but I can't be their huckleberry because I can't be there quick enough.

I cause myself heart-palpitations with thoughts of being too busy, having too much on my plate.

Use to be, when I was slow I worried a little.

Feeling like I'm TOO BUSY has a worse effect on me than being too slow!

How 'bout you?

VTCGuy, Paul, you bustling about?

Better to be too busy, than too slow.

When I was hiring vendors, if a provider I preferred couldn’t make it, no problem I will try you on the next one. It’s not like you are on a retainer.

Make hay while the sun shines, as they say.

I feel you, Lenny.

My conscientiousness gets in my way, though, having to put people off.

Sure, my 30 year customers are usually OK for a time, but the others will move on

I’d say tradesmen are very busy here in Massachusetts. Just got a masonry quote for a tiny job that was astronomical!

I figure he must be so busy, the only way he’ll leave current jobs is to make it worthwhile.

Sign of the times, I suppose, but the dude will not get any work from me.

When you get a really high quote, it’s generally one of two things. 1. He doesn’t want the job 2. He thinks you got money , expensive house and cars expect to pay more for work .

Yup. I call this the “big house tax.”

Whatever. I’m calling some more masons today. A reasonable person would think there’s about $250 worth of work.

A watchmaker is always busy. Getting ready for summer when people go in the pool with their old gaskets and end up with a Rolex aquarium....

Every guy I went to high school with that started in the trades is now very well off. I have five friends who own (one is now retired) their own trade companies (mechanical, general contracting, commercial glass, electric and one supply shop to the trades) and they are all multi millionaires.

Even the ones who don’t own, are paid very well for their trade skills. The nice thing about all of them, is that you’d never know how well off they are. Really down to earth guys, that would give you the shirt off their back. I will say they do like to party, and to this day .. many still behave like they are in high school

We’ve been very fortunate as our area has see a building boom for the better part of 3 decades with few slow downs.

I tried working in the trades when I was younger and it wasn’t for me ... but I often wish I had stuck it out

MHO- When you get too busy time to raise prices. It will help balance out your work flow.

Good problems to have either way- glad to hear things are going well.

Thanks all.

NC Pack...Methinks I'm already the highest priced legitimate safe/lock tech around here.
OTOH, the scammers rip people off for way more and provide little.

Oh, the job way down south 5 hours...had it open in 10 minutes using dialing diagnostics, since the combination was known.

Just saw this thread. As an electrician in metro Atlanta, I can tell you things are BOOMIN! I haven't seen this much work here since before 2000. And no, I'm not complaining. But it seems like the younger generation doesn't seem to want to get into the trades.

Being a lock smith for 30 years has anyone ever approached you to try and get you to rob banks and other heists? Lol maybe I watch too many movies seems like it might be something you’d encounter.

Glad you’re busy

I am not a tradesman, but consult for many construction companies. I was onsite with a client last week and they are bidding jobs with 35% gross profit because they have too much work. The crazy part is they are still getting about a quarter of those jobs! The industry is booming right now!

Due to the fires in Northern California, the trades are busy. We lost 5000 homes in this area alone in 2017 and last year another 10,000 were lost a couple of hundred miles away.
