Current Collection

Well, somehow I’ve managed to defy the odds (mostly from the not-always-so-safe years of touring the country in a very rickety 1977 Dodge van w my band back in the 80s...not to mention a lot of other dumb stunts from the late 70s onwards!) and make it to Fifty-Two today. I’ve still got my hair, my health (knock on wood), and now the passion for collecting these ridiculous old time-pieces...which is a LITTLE safer than racing down I-95 at 3:00AM in the rain on the way back from back-to-back punk rock shows in Boston and Providence in 1987.

Anyway, here’s my current collection. After buying and selling a dozen or so over the years, I gotta say, I’m pretty happy with them all.
(Grandfather’s 1924 Waltham white gold pocket watch. 1967 5512. 1966 (birth year) gilt 1016. Late 50s ish (?) Omega Seamaster DeVille, also from my grandfather. Omega 300 Seamaster Co -Axial. And, finally, 1966 5513. )

And an old pic from 1987 onstage at the old 9:30 Club in my hometown of Washington, DC (far left, playing bass)

Thanks, David! And yeah, there was an incident in 1981 involving me and my idiot friends, and DC’s finest, that easily could’ve (and probably should've) wound up in a very tragic ending. Mercifully, cops back then didn’t seem to have such itchy trigger fingers.

Ha! John, those clubs back then would get so hot, that we’d just take the stage shirtless. And, man, those gigs in your fine state of Texas in the summertime were EXTRA brutal.

Sweet collection. Dude the stories you must have, must be out of this world. Touring in the 70s, just awesome. Nice Pocket watch.
Its cool to think that back in the day the pocket watch is what every guy used as the wrist watches were meant for women.

Ha! Not quite touring in the 70s! Touring in the 80s IN a van from the 70s (they were about $500 at the time). And yeah, those days of pocket watches....so cool

Current Collection

Wow, rock star collection. Very nice.

Early 80’s I would have been one of the under age teens at the back, hopping not to get thrown out

No fear, Colin Most of the clubs that held punk shows in the 80s were all-ages. You would've been right up front!

Great collection, Andy! And not one date model. Makes setting so much easier.

Was on that stage myself several times back in the '80s, and your band stories bring back a lot of good/bad memories. Happy B'day!

Thanks, Aaron! And yeah, finally sold off my 1680 a little while ago, and that was the only thing I DIDN"T miss about it.

Oh, man, plenty of bad with the good. (Don't get me started on shows in Philly and Trenton!)

Great collection! I think you were smart to hang onto one modern piece. I love that 1016 too. Just beautiful.
