34-40 is ideal in my judgement.

I have one watch that is smaller and several that are larger, but that's the sweet spot for me.

My wrist is 7½".

Depends on your build and wristsize, the shape and thickness of the watchcaee. For me 40mm is perfect. Tried the 116660 44mm on twice, looks way too big for me. Tried on the 126600 43mm once, and looked a lot smaller than just the 1mm difference.
Also tried the 116610 looked bigger than my 116600, although they are both 40mm.

Had 42mm’s for the past 14 years and in the past few years thought it was a little small on my wrist without much presence.

Tried on the D-blue 126660 and knew this was a bit too large for my comfort level.

The 43mm 126600 ended up being perfect and comfortable.

I have a rounded 7 3/4 inch wrist 6’4” 266 lb I wear watches ranging from 34mm (1960’s Omega Seamaster) to 44mm (Breitling Chronomat, Seiko SUN069 GMT) I love wearing the Omega, but I guess it looks too small in the modern context. I have 4 watches over 40mm and only my Sky-Dweller does not strike me as a bit too large. Tudor BB S&G and the Breitling and Seiko sometimes make me wish they were a bit smaller. I have a 36 Datejust to my eye it is perfect.

To summarize I think 36-40mm fit my aesthetic preferences, anything bigger or smaller looks funny, but I’m willing to wear it if there is something about it that is special to me. I think my next watch outside of this size range is likely a Speedmaster of some sort, a legendary piece for sure. Haven’t yet decided which variety, but I think it’s a go.

That old addage, "as long as the lugs don't overhang your wrists" is spot-on.

Walking poorly on egg shells, I will only offer that in my lowly, humble opinion, a hubcap that tells time is ridonculous ...AND effeminate.

For me with a 7.5 wrist size, no smaller than 40 mm up to 45.5 mm. I have 50 mm watches and they are just humongous. Smaller than 40 mm makes me feel like the watch is way too small.

If we post this exact same thread in Breitling or Panerai forum, what do you think the answers will be?

This is a ROLEX forum and it's not too surprising to me that most answers are typical Rolex sizes.

I completely understand that size is a personal preference... but there has to be a correlation between wrist size, body size and watch size.

When checking watch sizes, wrist WIDTH is much more critical than CIRCUMFERENCE. Circumference is more important when sizing a bracelet.

My wrist is 60mm across. Any watch with less than 55mm lug to lug distance fits my wrist well.

I rarely wear dress watches... My typical preference is 43, 44, 45mm... I'm OK with +/- 1mm, start getting out of my comfort zone at +/-2mm (41mm, 47mm)

Maybe as I get older, my preference will change... maybe I'll start preferring 36 or 34mm... Maybe...

But at some point, things can look ridiculous :)
