Thank you sir.

Would you say the dial is fake or relumed? Just curious.

I don’t like the dial on either. I am saying worse than reluming!

Suggest significant change of direction from purchasing to research, lest expensive mistake is made.

5500 Explorer is seriously a model to avoid. Only pain..

You have a nice one? Congrats. You want to buy one? Change your mind.

Words to live by for sure. I guess my 5500 Explorer dream is over... I did not realize they were so difficult to source.

Almost 10 out of 10 are redone and faked in order to make a cheap watch expensive. Get a nice 1016 instead if that look appeals to you.

Real ones exist; I have three different dial versions and there are more again that are correct. White text, gilt text, underline etc, even a luminova service version.

Most indeed, however, including the two in this thread, are not among them.

Would you agree to share pictures so we uneducated newbies understand a bit better how real ones should look like and get a bit less fooled?

Many thanks !

I completely disagree. White text 5500 Explorer can be correct.

I believe the “gilt only” theory to be another Dowling-based myth.

Gilt can also be redial...

Here are more pics of the last one I posted. Non-gilt.

What do you think?

I personally think the 1016 is one of the most versatile references ever produced. It appeases those seeking a non-submariner vintsge reference with provenance and the WIS community. If I could only choose one reference, this would be mine. Good luck!!
