SOLD: Vintage SEIKO Lord Matic Day/Date (1975)

[Old Expat Beast]

After Grand Seiko and King Seiko were discontinued in the mid 1970s, Lord Matic was briefly Seiko’s top-of-the-range automatic watch line until it, too, was discontinued in 1977. This 5606-8031 looks very similar to some of the later King Seiko and Grand Seiko 56 models and is a typical example of Taro Tanaka’s Grammar of Design.


Condition

This example is in really great shape, with sharp case, clean silver-sunburst dial and hands, and original bracelet (ref. XAA 582). The Hardlex crystal has no scratches or chips.

The double quickset day/date function works as it should (with optional English or Japanese days), and the movement is keeping excellent time, with good amplitude and zero beat error (see last pic below).
