Congratulations! This is a very nice watch. I know, as a Nautiman.
Yes, must also thank Tyler for his enabling because I too was influenced through his postings.
By the way, don't your AD size for you when you're collecting the watch?

This one shouldn't come as a surprise to some of you who have been following me as of late. With all the praises I've sung for the 5164 since acquiring one last December, it suddenly departed mid-May, and many people had thought I had gone crazy.

Well, that's because there were bigger things coming. After a number of hiccups, delivery delays, and the such, the beast has arrived!

I am speechless and positively giddy. That dial is simply gorgeous in the flesh with many shades of grey (50 or more? ), and it has the right balance of presence, complication and heft for a sports watch.

I haven't quite yet had the chance to have it sized down, so it's not officially on the wrist quite yet, but I'll provide better pictures once that's taken care of.

I have to thank a very generous and kind TRF member who helped me secure this piece from his AD. It's incomings and moments like these which make me truly proud to be a member of the community and really signifies how it's not all about profiteering and price speculation.

I also have to thank some of you out there (mostly Tyler and Jorge) for all of the enabling and pushing me over the edge to get this piece!
What a fabulous piece, well done. Wear it in good health bud

Going to respond to the comments soon, once I get this piece sized down this afternoon.

I spent a good chunk of last night on my living room couch with this one in my hand... quietly mumbling to myself "my precious... my precious..."

Tom, hearty congrats to you on such an awesome PP. The gradient grey dial on the 5990 looks incredible in person, which I was lucky enough to try on this afternoon. I may have been more giddy than you when I had your 5990 on my wrist today.

Enjoy it to the fullest Tom!

A couple of post-sizing wristshots:

I'm absolutely speechless. This piece far exceeds my expectations. The 5164 was an amazing piece, but this one really takes it to the next level. The feeling on the wrist is amazing, it has very serious wrist presence, but it is also extremely comfortable at the same time. The bracelet is silky smooth and the surfaces are impeccably finished. Now I know what fellow Nautilus owners are talking about when they refer to the bracelet.

The gradient grey dial is absolutely gorgeous as it has so much depth and is so dynamic in different lighting.

As my first Nautilus, the only little quibble I might have is that the clasp can be bit hard to open, but it gives a very secure feeling when clicking it closed.

I still feel the need to pinch myself... Having this one in my hands is truly a dream come true!

Great photos, it looks incredible!

I really like that you timed the shots so that they’re all when the seconds are at 0.

That's the chronograph's second hand, it will always be at 12 o'clock until the wearer presses the start pusher

Thanks Kevin! I still love the 5164 and it was an extremely tough decision to let it go. I've had to exercise some strict self discipline as of late - 4 pieces and no more. It's forced me to make some very tough choices indeed.

Thanks! The travel case is fantastic - it's made by Phase de Lune (I recently got their 3 watch roll) and their stuff is top shelf. All the better with the PP branding!

Thanks! I don't doubt the power of social media on increasing the popularity of these pieces. The 5164 and 5990s were sleepers a year or two ago, and they're now on fire! I also think it has to be that they are now relatively much better buys than they used to be - the price gap between 5167/5164 and 5711 or 5712 vs the 5990 has narrowed such that the 5164 and 5990 have become better value for money than their time-only counterparts.

I've just been doing general housecleaning... too many pieces I had been hoarding and wearing seldomly. I like a smaller, more focused collection that I will wear and enjoy more often.

Thanks! Tyler and Jorge played a huge role in enabling, I also spoke with them in private and was pushed over the edge by their remarks on the piece. As for sizing - it was shipped from the AD to me (i.e. I didn't get it from a local AD), so it was unsized when I got it.

Thanks! I was lucky in that the wait time was almost non-existent... just some shipping delays.

In terms of how it wears to the Jumbo, it definitely wears with more presence given the thicker case, but it wraps around my wrist better than the Jumbo. On the Jumbo, the bracelet is very stiff and flares out at the lugs on my small wrist, whereas on the 5900, it drapes down more at the lugs and there's no flaring out that I see on the Jumbo.

It wears a lot more comfortable - the interior edges are nice and smooth, while I find the inside edges of the Jumbo bracelet can be sharp and irritate my skin at times.

I think you meant that it is the chronograph's minute hand!

Thanks! According to my measurements this morning, my wrist has shrunk to about 6.3" (I lost 10 lbs in the last few weeks for a variety of reasons).

Isn’t the seconds hand also at 0 though? The chronograph is the big seconds hand but the time seconds is the subdial at nine, right?

that is the chronograph minutes subdial. There is no running seconds, unless you run the chronograph
