sub C for 14060m 2 liner or 4?

Ok, so I now have an opportunity to trade my Sub C for a 14060m 2 liner or 4 liner. Looking to the collective wisdom of the forum to help me decide. Here are the details....2 liner is a 2003 model, with uncertain service history. Comes with box/papers. Deal would be trade + some cash to me. The 4 liner is from 2010 and has just been serviced but no box/papers. Deal would be straight trade. Let me know what you think!

I‘ve had this itch on more then one occasion. Each time trying on the 16610 (vs my 116610), I couldn’t do it. Other than case proportions (which look worse in pics on maxi case than in person), the SubC is better in every way. Normally I’d say IMO, but not sure it can be argued - ceramic, solid links and glidelock. I’d no not trade yours.

I wouldn’t, I’d keep the SubC. And this is coming from a longtime owner and lover of the 14060 2-liner.

As I wrote elsewhere, your Submariner looks perfect on your wrist. Wouldn't do it.

Keep the SubC. Would trade for a 4-Liner complete set with watch in good condition ... some cash ought to come back your way, but not a lot.

In my opinion you either love the 5 digit case or you love the 6 digit. I went with a 16600 sea dweller for a while but came back to the 114060 as I love the maxi plots and hands better.

I would suggest really taking some time to look at the 5 digit over 6 and see what sings to you.

From a value standpoint I don’t like what your trade offers are at as the ceramic sub has a value of well over $8k.

I’ll go against the grain and say go for the 5 digit. The looks, feel and proportions are just so much better than the 6 to me.

If you shop around you should be getting some cash back in the deal rather than a straight swap. A couple of grand at least. Maybe just sell the SubC and then buy a 14060M.

Definitely a 2-Liner. It’s an elegant and well balanced dial. Subs with 4 lines of blurb are way OTT.

Thanks all, but have to say I am surprised by the overwhelming support for keeping the SubC. Thought I’d made the decision to trade but now I’m back on the fence! Someone asked about my rationale for trading. It really boils down to 2 things...heft and bling. I like that the 5 digits are a bit Under the radar. Also, the Sub C is a bit top heavy and just not as comfortable on my wrist as the 5 digits that I’ve tried on. On the flip side, the SubC glide lock can’t be beat. Seems I really need to think this through a bit more. Thanks for all the advice!

I was surprised too. You can ask the same question on another day and get a totally different response. It just happens there’s a lot of 6 fans about today. There’s no shortage of love for the 5s if you do a quick search though.

I always ran my 2-line 14060M with a glidelock clasp and a half link, it was the perfect fitting sub with its thinner case and lugs but then I traded it off for an SD43 because I have big wrists. The SD43 fit my bigger wrist size in diameter better but the case was just too thick and bulky, so I recently sold it as well. I wish I had my 14060M back.

Keep the SubC and if possible add the 5 digit Sub. Short of that I would keep the SubC and enjoy.

If you feel the SubC is top heavy have you tried adjusting the links (#of links on 6 and 12 side), and also how do you wear the watch (loose, tight). I don't have much experience w/ 5 digit watches (I have a Tudor Sub on a strap, and I've worn my dad's 5 digit DJ). While overall a 5 digit is lighter than a 6 digit, the bracelet is also significantly lighter as well so my thought is it would be about the same (again not much experience with 5 digit models) so perhaps someone with both can more accurately help.

Me too. I wish I had it back for what I sold it for 6 years ago...

If that's the reason why you're looking to trade then I say it makes a little more sense. Go for a 5 digit reference and maybe shop around too. I have found all the 6 digits super cases heavy, bulky and not as comfortable as the 5 digits. With or without a glidelock. The older bracelets are lighter and more comfortable. I also used to find I adjusted the glidelock all the time. I never adjust the 5 digit bracelets for some reason. Even when my wrist tends to swell a little in the summer, it always just wears right.

I've also owned a 14060m 4-liner and they wear smaller and much more under the radar. They also use the older hollow-end link bracelets which give it a more narrow stance than the solid end-links. As some others have stated, that's one of the ones I'd like back.

I think it's just that the deals you're being offered are terrible. Even the fans of the 5 digit over the 6 digits are saying keep your SubC, I suspect that's the reason.

If someone offered me a naked 5 digit 14060m as a straight trade for my SubC, full kit, I'd laugh in their face. Maybe it'll change in the future, but as of right now that's a terrible deal for you.

If you really want to go from a 6 digit to 5 digit, you're better off to sell your SubC and find a 5 digit sub to buy. You'll end up much better financially that way.

the 5 digit vs 6 digit is personal preference. Only you can decide.

Straight up, is a bad trade.

I would do the deal for as new unpolished with box and papers not for those mentioned. Especially if 2007 4-liner as new full set. Likewise for the 16610 over 116610.

I prefer the 4 line 14060, wearing mine now.

But I wouldn’t do that trade.
