i debated too. read an article where in Ralph Lauren said he wore a blue datejust for years. i found one with a roulette date wheel. flies under the radar, looks classy, sporty, timeless.

Blue if on smooth bezel (in fact this is the combo that I have, on jubilee) while silver dial on flutted. Blue is more sporty and the smooth bezel suits it really well.

OP, congrats on the great choice.

Below is a picture of my combo.

Great looking comb you have, I have to admit the blue dial is mesmerizing.

But the sunburst silver got me in the end. Like pearl it reflects light in different grades between blue silver to machine grey to light champaign.
Combine this with the stick markers finishing.

I am thinking of a 36mm Datejust 116234 and I feel the silver is timeless, i have a Blue Sky Dweller so I want that sleek silver look to mix it up. That said If I didn't have the SD-I iwiuld do a blue Datejust

I was facing the same dilemma and got the blue 126234 after I realized that the silver dial color of the new 126234 is slightly different from the previous DJ 116234. Has someone else noticed that?

I have the silver dial on jubilee but with the smooth bezel. You can't beat the dial in the sun, stunning! Congratulations

Enjoy it in good health! Yours are the best photos of the new DJ 36 with the silver dial, you really caught its magic! Such a tough call between silver and blue.

As to blue being a fad, who thinks this should open watch archive books, and see how deeply blue colour is rooted with watch dials in general.

Any Blue from Rolex is always beautiful but I would go for the Silver as a daily watch.

Enough words I will leave you with the pics. Thank you again

For the current DJ 36s I think the silver is the best option if youre going fluted / jub. Looks super classy, the dial looks amazing in different types of light.

I prefer the black and then the blue if going for the more casual smooth / oyster combo.

Thanks for sharing this. It's interesting how two watches with the same configuration other than the dial look worlds apart.

Congrats and thanks for sharing. Your strategy of going with timeless, quintessential pieces is a great one. Your trio of Rolex Sub, Rolex DJ, and Omega Speedy is very well thought out. I agree with your choice of fluted silver dial DJ under this mindset (love the blue dials too, but the silver makes more sense for your collection).

Now, for the iconic blue dial? In keeping with the theme of your collection it almost seems to me that for blue dial you should go AP or PP...

You are absolutely right about the next move, specially if it's gonna be with blue dial it most be one of those, hopefully both
