The major downside to PMs. Scratches hurt more.

I have always been a fan of the PM Sub. Have owned several over the years, both 16808 and 16618. When the 6 digit sub came out, I was sold. Love it more every day!

Definitely a lot of people have been disappointed after a purchase but surprisely after a while you'd begin to love the piece more..I'd rather tell you to enjoy the piece because it's a lovely one.

I consider a PM reference (or anything that's not a necessity above ~$25K) a substantial purchase. I'll only buy things in this category that I love. 'Really like' doesn't cut it. I've never been disappointed/had buyer's regret, and I really don't think about how much it cost afterwards.

I can think of lots of better things to buy with $40k than a gold watch.

Lots of people own a top of the line watch or car and own other very substandard items.

In fact, the truly wealthy behave just the opposite.

Agreed. I own one and the dynamic blue dial can't be beat. But I love Rolex blue dials, nothing like them.

Sure, look how many people flip them. People always get disappointed and flip them, why do you think there are so many grays and preowned watches on the market.

OP, I have previously owned a Hulk for 3 years. Now on my 3rd year of owning a YG/Blue Sub. For myself the gold Sub trumps the Hulk in every way. Loved the Hulk. Love the gold Sub even more and would not go back to the Hulk.

Not for me, generally they add substantially enough extra value to cover the premium, however I can understand on the YG Black subc it is not all that different to the SS so that might cause you to feel a little shortchanged as it were, I got the YG blue Subc so never had that issue, but I did a bit on my BP FF which I got in RG but it was very similar to SS in certain lights and contributed to me selling it.

Sometimes that great honeymoon period on a watch is immediate but dies quickly. Other times the love doesn't hit right away, but then .... bam! You love the watch every time you see it on your wrist.

I keep a new (or vintage) watch at least six months before deciding whether it's a keeper. I'd suggest keeping that pretty gold Sub at least that long before making a decision.

Love it.

I love it but if your not happy trade it out with a dealer for a Sub and Explorer. Many dealers have like new or new ones available.

Is this your first PM piece? So I have owned the black/yg, blue,yg, wg Smurf, Hulk, Sub, sub date, SD43, James Cameron SD, rg ym, tt rg CHNR and the full gold CHNR. I enjoyed each and every one of them. But after awhile the excitement always wore off. Perhaps it just wasn't to be for me. But of all the ones I owned, the YG sub was the best. The weight, the shine, etc. . This is a horrible hobby and once you have the itch, it is all over. I would wear it for awhile though and see if you actually end up liking it, before you decide to perhaps sell it and bring the SS models back in the stable. Good luck to you.

Curious, did you prefer the YG/Black or YG/Blue sub?

It's such a beautiful time piece, looks classy and very elegant. Wear it for a month and you might start to appreciate it. If it never really sings to you at all, just trade it in for the piece that you really like.

Anyone ever disappointed in a PM purchase?

I've owned a couple of Day Dates but they turned into flings as opposed to serious relationships. I quite like my Daytona on the other hand. Enjoy what appears to be a beautiful watch. Personally, I find that I'd rather have more subtle PMs such as Pt or WG. YG just doesn't really do if for me. Even my TT is preferred. But actually I prefer YG to SS imho.

I think if you went with a different PM reference, almost any other, you would have been happier. Personally, black and gold looks really gaudy and over the top.

Listen to your heart and get rid of it. Not sure if you're into rose gold, but the full rose gold CHNR is pretty sweet.

Exactly why I don't allow myself to be convinced by anyone to get any watch that I don't really want, that watch is nice but it seems like you didn't want much it before making the purchase.

I have owned this pair for over five years. I rotate them almost daily. I have never looked at either without satisfaction and great joy. They are amazing and different enough that it takes a day just to get used to each again - it's like wearing a new watch every day.
However.......if I was to ever replace these two for a single, it would be your YG Sub. Black and YG just do it for me, and the Sub itself is to my mind a perfect watch.
So wear yours for a while. One day you'll latch it on and you will have an answer as to what to do.
