This is why my wife is better than your wife... ;)

I know that, depending on your own marriage, you may disagree, but hear me out:

My wife and I met when we were teenagers at college and have been together for almost 30 years. As you can imagine, you know each other inside and out after such a long time and you have accepted each other's preferences, hobbies and spending habits. So normally, I get to buy the watches and she gets to buy the shoes. Not exactly a one-for-one deal, but I'd like to point out, that I buy far fewer watches, than she buys shoes. And I was fortunate enough to retire about 10 years ago, so I have far too much time on my hands to explore my obsession with watches, but we rarely trespass into each other's hobbies: I wear flip flops all day, she has one YG DJ that she wears 24/7. No surprises to be expected.

A couple of weeks ago, I got my hands on a brand new Pepsi, that arrived with FedEx overnight in the morning. I put it on, liked it, and went on to have lunch with my wife. We had just finished starters, when she noticed the new watch on my wrist and asked me about it. I proudly admitted that my collection had a new favorite and showed her the Pepsi. And than came, in a very casual tone, the sentence that proves, that my wife is better than your wife. She said: "I like it, and I see you like it, so let me buy it for you."

And she did. Just like that.

Feel free to add your own experiences to claim the title "Best Spouse" from her.

Oh, and that's her ..... in the back of the picture...

Pretty much.

How old are you to retire 10 years ago?

I don't think her buying you a Pepsi is anything to brag about personally but thanks for sharing.

You are successfully reducing a beautiful romantic gesture to a transaction technicality. You must be a banker or a lawyer.

She picked up the credit card bill for the month. Not that it makes much difference in a marriage. It's the thought that counts.

And no bragging intended. If I had things to brag about, they would not be at all of a material nature.
If you ever get to meet my kids, you will understand. And who cares about what car I drive or what watch I wear?

Just one of the few semi-interesting occurrences involving my wife and a watch.

And I am in my late 40s.

Great idea. I missed that opportunity. How stupid of me... :D

Haha I’m just thinking you bought it and had it, no sweat for her to do that and pick up a TON of goodwill which wives know how to wield! I’m on to her

You showed up to lunch with a Pepsi and your wife bought it for you. This is confusing after you said you are retired and have been married for 30 years. It was nice of her I guess.

Congrats

Admittedly a bit confused on how she is buying it for you. After 30 years I would think what’s yours is hers and what’s hers is yours

Yeah, I thought the same thing.

I like the sentiment behind the thread. But the example chosen - reimbursing the OP for something he picked out/purchased - doesn't support the premise of the thread title.

But hey, you do you OP and glad you guys are happy!

All of you are correct: I should have said that the paid for it, not that she had bought it. And, yes, it was minimal effort on her part, and after so many years of marriage, it probably doesn't matter anymore in a legal context.

I still enjoyed the spontaneous gesture (and the GMT).

I have to admit though, that the idea of putting it down for the next watch purchase is brilliant. I could kick myself.

Confused me at first too but I get it!

My wife and I have a joint account for mutual finances like Mortgage, Travel, utilities, groceries, housing expenses, etc, but Keep separate accounts for buying personal items like Watches or whatever our individual hobbies are.

Thank you and no worries. I think most people understood, that the title was meant in a humorous way and I am just sharing a watch related episode with everybody, not starting a competition in spouses.

They are all in their boxes, playing their own version of Rolex-Tetris. One is missing, I gave that to a very special young man.

Every day of my life.

And she needs a new car in the foreseeable future, so there will be opportunities...

I started with a white one, then felt that I needed a black one to complement. I actually like the black dial more than the white one.

But the second black Daytona was just a very attractive offer (for a used one) that I couldn't say 'no' to. When I opened the package, it actually turned out to be a partially stickered new one. So I kept it for a rainy day.
