Seems we are all lucky guys with loving/supportive SOs.
Been with my girl over 42 years. She was a checkout clerk at local grocery store and I was a teacher.
Over this time, we went from penniless to beyond well off.
She has been the perfect wife, mother and best friend.
Now, she is a CEO of large national corporation, and me retired for 17 years after 25 years in finance.
I bought my first Rolex nearly 50 years ago and have collected for 3 decades.
Her gifts to me have included:
GMT 16710 Coke
GMT 16710 Pepsi
Sub 16610 LV Flat 4
YM 16622
Expy 2 16570 Black
GMT 116710 BLNR
SkyD 326934 Blue
Sub 116619LB

But as all of us know, 50/50 on everything.

My best friend, a musician, believes I’m insane because of my obsession with these things called Rolex watches. And my son/daughter could care less about Dad’s watches.

Oh the things our significant others put up with in this hobby.

For my own story we’ve had a couple of large bills over the last months. Undue tax bills, furniture, a couple of seasons tickets we’d like to buy. As a result, we had a sit down talk about finances and our goals for the remainder of the quarter. Sort of a reassessment so we can both be on the same page and commit to a financial goal.

Then I get a call for a BLNR . . .

So what do I do? I buy it because AT WORST I figure I can sell it and be covered if my wife vetos. When I start the conversation I say as much.

Her reply “Why don’t you get it in first and see if you like it”.

Really, we don’t deserve our partners and the grace they give us.

A real spectrum of opinion, and a bit too much negative energy. To digress off the OP’s story, I am more appreciative of the idea of accepting each other’s preferences after Valentine’s Day.

I was at the local Tudor dealer while doing errands, not looking for anything in particular. I saw a GMT that I knew was a bit hard to find. I thought, ‘well, I don’t have anything for her yet, maybe she’d like an easy-to-read dial.’ I had it wrapped, gave it to her, she didn’t even try it on. ‘I like the one watch I have.’ Now, it is a TT Everose 31 mm with diamond dial- maybe I should have hit a single before the home run! OTOH, she tolerates my Rolex obsession, which makes her that much more special.

I wouldn’t be able to accept cash from my partner for something I’ve already purchased.. very strange to me.

OP - congrats on the watch and wife. The more intelligent ones here understand your post was a tongue-in-cheek expression of gratitude, not bragging.

Also, ignore the boos. They usually come from the cheap seats.

This is why my wife is better than your wife...

Good story! I was up to 5 Rolexes at one point and my wife never complained. She generally liked the watches. Since then I sold 4 and purchased a couple lower end PM’s. Again no complaints.

Here’s the hitch. She likes purchasing clothes and I am forbidden from commenting. Even though we aren’t going anywhere right now she must be preparing for some future trip. Recently I took 4 large bags of her slightly used clothes to Salvation Army to help clear space in her walk-in for the next round of purchases.

The good news is that her annual expenses on clothes are less than 50% of a new Pepsi. So I can’t complain.

Not sure about that title, I‘m afraid the line you’ll have to get into for the best wife title is actually longer than the one for that Pepsi... but nice gesture for sure.

Good story. I guess maybe even better if the mrs. would’ve just went out and bought you the watch straightaway, like mine did?

I'm just having a lol.. my wife is right off the top shelf. We are poor though compared to Superwife there above, but my wife would buy me whatever I desired if she had the means (or if I had the means rather). She brings me food..

Very touching. To find love once with your first wife was a blessing. To find it a second time with the lady who saved you, was grace. Be well.
