That AP chrono is good looking. I like the larger subdials for the chrono function. Easier to spot at a glance.

But no AP (or PP for that matter) is a Daytona killer in the sense of surmounting its history, name recognition and reputation.

The AP is easier to read than the white face Daytona.

Certainly agree among the AP & PP cognoscenti in a subjective sense.

But the world is wider and to kill the Daytona means overtaking 50+ years of marketing and name recognition.

To become a Daytona killer in an objective sense, what measures should be applied?

Neither brand is aiming to produce enough copies of their chrono’s to challenge Rolex’s Daytona production in 5 different metals and as many styles of bracelet/straps. They all cross every price boundary from mid ten thousands up to nearly $200K - I just can’t find a metric that either AP or PP will displace the Daytona

Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet are about more than just metrics my friend. The AP and PP offerings are haute horology with a savoir faire incapable of rolling off the mass produced Rolex assembly line. I am buying a YG Daytona, but not because it is better than a Nautilus or RO, but because its a good reliable tool watch with the reliable Zenith chronograph movement that I want. The market position and "prestige" of the Daytona is only because of the Rolex marketing machine, not because of anything else.

Mine just came in! What a great size, it really does feel kind of retro modern with its proportions. Reallllly cool!

And for size comparison with my series A zenith daytona...

That said, I am in the market for a yellow gold Daytona with the zenith movement!

Actually I would argue that the Daytona specifically doesn’t look like just any other chronograph, especially to non WIS. IMO that, along with the case size, is why it’s so popular with women who seem to be able to spot a Daytona from a distance of 20feet or more. If you put a Speedmaster on a woman’s wrist it looks too chunky whereas the Daytona looks perfect (IMO).

This. I've noticed the women even slightly interested in luxury watches, be it Rolex, Chanel, have been able to spot Daytonas of various variants.

I dated a Brazilian who recognized my Patek within the first minute. Other than that, the only watch I’ve ever owned recognized by at least half the women I’ve dated was Panerai. Few knew what it was, but all loved them (and on even bought one).

At double the retail price and smaller size, not sure these watches are in the same category.
Nonetheless this ROC is absolutely beautiful, the blue sub dial are mesmerising.

The AP chrono is a stunning piece but Daytona killer? No! It’s not in the same category.

How about an incoming of Jacob & Co/RM and call it AP killer?

Why would being Brazillian make a difference?

Don’t they have Pateks in Brasil?

Half the women you dated recognised your Panerai but few knew what it was?

How could they recognise it if they didn’t know what it was?

You are not making sense?

personal take...AP ROC are more about making a statement, while Daytona's money in the bank!

Just got mine today. Beautiful watch, but I’m thinking I should have gone with a 41mm ROC.

Total nonsense, most people don’t even know what an AP is.

On your wrist the 41mm would be too big. You made a great choice.

This grey and silver combo is a really sharp look. AP are the best at colliding colours

Could never get over that off-center date window. Kills the dial for me. Otherwise, nice-looking chrono.

Aesthetically, I don’t find it as beautiful as the Daytona. A little too busy overall, especially with all those little screws on the bezel, but purely subjective, of course.

you're right. I think I was expecting a slightly bigger watch when looking at others photos. But after wearing it for the day I think the size is perfect.

I agree. I like the white and blue dial as well. Def. more flashy than the grey and silver, but another great color combination by AP.
