yellow gold or white gold Sub?
Hi:
I've decided that my next Submariner should be an all-gold one, but I'm having a hard time deciding between two models: the yellow gold one with blue dial and bezel (126618LB), or the white yellow gold one with black dial and blue bezel (126619LB). So far I've got an SS green Submariner (116610LV), a TT blue Submariner (116613LB), and a meteorite GMT-Master II (126719BLRO), plus a blue Omega Seamaster Diver (latest version). I see the white gold Sub as discreet but (no offense intended) a little bland (it looks like a steel Submariner with a blue bezel). The yellow gold Sub, on the other hand, has an amazing dial but (no offense intended) is a bit too loud; it also has the same blue dial as my TT blue Sub, but if I bought the all-yellow gold Sub the TT one might be sold. So, which would you get if you were in my shoes, the 126618LB (yellow gold blue Submariner) or the 126619LB (white gold blue Submariner)? My age: 54. Thank you in advance for your comments and opinions!!! |

yellow gold or white gold Sub?
Had both. WG has stayed. As you have stated, the YG is a bit loud. I’m not against that but sometimes it’s a bit too much.

Completely subjective of course, but the appeal of the white gold Sub for me is the fact it goes a little more under the radar that anything in yellow or rose gold.
Obviously being one of the most iconic dive watches means it will still get noticed, but more for its design that shouty gold hue. I guess some of the decision could be based on what occasion you're more likely to wear it. |

The submariner looks so much better in a 'steel' look as a professional model.
Less of a gaudy, gangster piece. Apologies in advance to the YG owners. I have a lot of respect for the WG pieces. |

I don’t think there is a wrong answer here, but if it were my decision I’d go YG!
You’ve got a SS and TT sub that could be worn as a daily. You’ve already got a WG Gmt that could fly under rather (although that meteorite dial is out of this world!!) so why not go for a beautiful YG sub blue dial that is very loud and enjoy it as a weekend watch! Wow have a look at that! The WG could definitely be worn everyday and fly under the radar and would suit as a one watch collection, I can see why it stayed. But the YG is definitely something special, but too much for me for everyday but perfect as a weekender Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My thought is that you already have the WG blro, so maybe the YG would be a nice change

Looks aside, you're not getting the bang for your buck with both the TT and the YG. My vote would be the WG.

Yellow on blue sub is one of the most iconic and classic Rolex’s ever…… it has clearly maintained its allure over decades…..
Yellow all day….. As far as white….if you could find a Smurf, I’d consider that, but the new WG version with black dial is a steel look alike to me, anyway…. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The new WG Sub would have been great with a blue sunburst dial. Not sure about the blue bezel/black dial combo. It may be too abrupt and not flow well.

I had the same thoughts a few weeks back and ultimately went with the white gold version 126619LB. The blue bezel truly pops against the black dial in the sun while floating under the radar when it's dark. And no, it does not look like steel. Everyone that says that does not understand how the warm hue of white gold works. And with more than half a pound of weight, it truly feels like something special on your wrist. Even if some people think it's just a random steel watch you are wearing, with the slightest wrist movement you know that it's not. I love mine and after owning it, I would not move to the YG version.

Given your current stable (inc. WG GMT) I would go for the yellow gold. I love the 126619 a lot but it does look like a SS model with a blue bezel (and that’s coming from someone who has a SS model with a blue bezel!).

Two complementary colors: blue and yellow, so I'm voting for 126618LB.

Given your collection I’d actually go for the YG black dial.
It’s still loud but not as loud as the blue dial and since you already have the TT bluesy, there’s definitely a lot of overlap. WG is an option I suppose….but there’s nothing like a YG sub imo. Good luck with the decision! |

WG for sure. But the 116619 is the one to get. Gives you the more subtle and stealthy goodness of white gold, but with a more unique and beautiful dial.

The WG sub is my favorite PM sports piece. Take my opinion with a grain of salt as I am not a Daytona guy and I like the stainless GMT offerings, so my universe to choose from is pretty limited.
That being said, if you have not seen it in the flesh, I highly advise you to do so before making your decision. No, it does not look like a stainless steel watch but yes, it is stealthy. Best of both worlds and pictures truly don't do it justice. |

YG black dial would provide more versatility.

My personal preference is WG. Totally under the radar, but has a special look to it with the blue bezel and PCL.

I don’t care for the WG sub at all for some reason. Since you already have the GMT, definitely recommend getting the full YG sub. Agree with Others though would probably contemplate moving on the two two it makes it totally redundant in my opinion, or get the YG black dial. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Have the GMT Meteorite,WG Sub Black/Blue but not the YG Sub Blue .
I can only say get both ! Both magnificent in their own way . PS: The WG Sub is not as discreet as you think ,the design POPS ! MUCH better than my BLNR. You haven't seen nothing until you have seen any watch in the metal . |

WG all the way for me - classy and not too in-your-face - although I much prefer the 116619LB over the 126619LB as the blue dial just makes it more unique and special.
To me (and apologies to all you owners) I always think the full YG Sub has a bit of a whiff of "Del Boy" about it. (If you're not British, Google "Only Fools and Horses" for Del Boy)

WG for me, always—I just find the other gold variants gaudy, but some people pull it off in style.
That said, while WG can be stealthy on certain watches, when it comes to Rolex sports models, I’m not sure it really is. Suppose it won’t catch the eye of someone who knows nothing about watches the way a yellow- or rose gold watch does, but to anyone who knows even a little about Rolex, seeing a huge 40+mm watch with a shiny bezel and a cyclops is going to merit a second look, and if they know anything about the pm colorways of Rolex, the WG sub will be very much on their radar. Guess what I’m saying is, I wouldn’t feel any safer or less flashy wearing a WG sub (or Pepsi) than I would wearing a yellow gold one. Just my 2 cents. |

Question: Based on the hesitance towards each of the two contenders, why not the YG Sub with black dial and bezel?
For some reason I’ve never loved the look of a Sub with non-matching dial/bezel. At the same time, you don’t have anything black-on-black. |

Yellow. If I’m wearing precious metal I want it to look like precious metal.

WG. Would be interesting to see if age and preference correlate strongly with this. Both are great!
