AD tells me if I buy a $10k watch the next YG Daytona is mine. Thoughts?
I’ve been trying to purchase my first gold watch a 116518 yellow gold Daytona on oysterflex with the Newman dial for a few years now.
Some background: AD1: I have about $25k spend history on jewelry and a sub AD2: I have about $20k on non-Rolex watches and an Exp1 AD3: no spend history but he said if I buy a $10k Breitling Navitimer the next PN dial Daytona on OF is mine I like the new Navitimer but after seeing it in person i didn’t feel like it was worth $10k. Should I entertain AD3? Or, just keep pushing AD 1 & 2. The fact that AD3 even offered me this package deal for a Daytona makes me feel like inventory is getting better and perhaps demand has slowed quite a bit. I remember a couple years ago this same AD laughed at me when I asked for the same watch. Thoughts?

I wouldn’t do it. The market for PM will soften as the economy becomes more and more uncertain. This could be their last effort to move some inventory that way. The other ADs won’t let a $30k sale walk. You’ll get your watch

I wouldn't buy something I don't want to get something I do want.

How do you know AD3 is even telling you thr truth? Once you buy the 10k watch you don't want they might never contact you about the Daytona you want. Did they give you an ETA?
I personally have problems trusting people and their word. |

I would do it in a heartbeat. I’d sell the Breitling for whatever I could get for it, and just consider whatever loss I incurred as a Very Cheap premium on the YG Daytona.

If both transactions take place simultaneously I would do it.

I would never participate in such an unethical practice. I'd rather go without a watch than do that deal. But I'm older. YMMV.

you're gonna lose half, or more if you factor in taxes, on the breitling in today's market. you'd be better off just going grey for the daytona

Without a doubt, I’d do it if you trust this AD.

Current MSRP here in the states on the 518 is 30,600 plus tax plus the Breitling plus tax
So I’m assuming you’d be around 44-45k. Then I guess you might get half on the Breitling. Maybe…. So back to 40k….. Yeah I don’t think so. If it was at the same time the excitement “might” get me but as a string along yeah no. Don’t feel bad I’ve been offered a 515 like 3 times with actual pics saying if I could would you. Said yes all 3 times. Never got any. Said F it. Went Grey and haven’t lost a second of sleep even with all the gloom and doom talk/prices dropping. Love love love the watch and sometimes that’s all that matters.

I would counter with "Ill buy the Navitimer WHEN you get the PN Daytona" otherwise you have no leverage to ensure that you actually get it.

As others have said, the Breitling will be worth half as you walk out the door. Wait a while and the PM Daytonas will be in their cases or make an offer to a gray and skip the Breitling.

If you don’t want something, don’t buy it.
No guarantee you’ll get the other watch. Keep trying other ways…

You've got 3 Options as of now (in order of what i would do in your position)
1- Counter with offering to pick up another non Rolex/Tudor piece, around the same price point you do actually want 2- Go Grey and pay the premium (they might be willing to do you a deal given the current state of things) 3- As others have said, tell your AD you agree but expect to walk out with the Breitling and and Daytona in one transaction, then sell the Breitling for whatever you can get for it/give it to someone who will actually enjoy it

And if and when he miraculously gets the Daytona you can determine if the purchase still makes sense considering the market conditions. Otherwise you will have a watch you don’t want with a terrible resale value. And no guarantee at all of getting the watch you really want. Also, when you say AD, are you talking about the actual owner or just some employee that could leave in a few months? |
