1st incoming post- Pepsi

Its my 1st incoming post but not my first watch (been wearing rolex since ~95/96). I've waited 2.5 years for this watch and I thought Id never get it. I've received others but always wanted this one whenever a text came that they had something special for me. On Tuesday my ad informed my my ss Pepsi jubilee arrived after asking for it since ~3/2020. She's been great since that time and given me a batgirl, jc dssd, Cermit, and black ss daytona. Only problem was it was Pepsi @ msrp + $10k spend (batgirl was + $6k spend) and I already bought 2 cars (14 vehicles) in July without telling my wife and figured the watch market was going down etc. So I was prepared to just let it go since I was always anticipating msrp + $6k. I was able to convince her to allow me to use a purchase of tudor bb58 blue 2 months prior from her to offset that $10k and it was approved. I'm probably part of the problem of being willing to spend the additional $ to get it but I waited this long and wasn't going to let go without at least attempting to negotiate a bit. I figured hoping for an MSRP + 0 wasn't going to happen anytime soon. The other 2 AD's i have purchased from since 2020 have yet to offer a single watch (they both dont require additional spend) so I enjoy having watches offered to me that I can decide to buy or turn down. With this purchase I am at about $110k spend. My wife paid for it on wed and I'll likely pick it up after i get home from vacation next week

Congratulation in finally getting the watch you always wanted. But that's crazy how much extra you had to spend to get those other watches.

Yes initially I was really put off by msrp + additional spend and it took the joy out of ownership experience as I have never experienced that before for watches. I was able to get a discount on my 1st rolex watch ( a 2 tone DJ) in 95/96 and all display cases were full. All subsequent rolex (prior to 2020) were from grey market dealers both new/used at below msrp prices.

In order of offerings (I bought my wife a 31mm ss dj in 2/2020)
Batgirl was + $6k
DSSD JC @ Msrp
Cermit MSRP + $6k
Daytona SS Black msrp + $10k (dec 2021 so right before msrp jumped in Jan)
Pepsi- MSRP + $10k but actually I got credit for the tudor so $6200)

It's hard to get exactly at the + spend because I can't control what my wife will like so what she actually picked out was ~$7k. I updated my list of wants and the AD leaked that even if she had one on hand she was not allowed to sell it to me until x amount of time had passed. My guess is somewhere between 5-7 months (but she never responded to my guess/theory) in between because last 2 xmas I have been offered watches and the other 3 were june-aug)

I just don’t get why anyone would play these AD games. No criticism on you OP as we are different. My AD sells multiple brands, jewellery etc, never once have I ever been asked to buy something to get something else. I have got some beautiful pieces with no hassle or stress, place the order, the watch arrives, and this includes some very hard to get pieces. Enjoy your Pepsi, wear in good health.

Crazy so the AD literally asks you to spend X$ to get the watch at MSRP? I guess congratulations are in order and its still a decent deal considering...but man, I would hate having such a relationship.

AD is in business to sell jewelry, watches and make money
With given demand, they are leveraging Rolex brand
If i was an AD , why would I give Joe $10k that’s worth $20k without getting something in return?
Nothing wrong with it. New normal and is fair
Or you can go on “ wishlist “
You got hot water at msrp… great
I got green daytona and stainless daytona and pepsi also at retail.
But that is not commom its a result of 20 yr relationship and some buyers dont have that

Congrats on your purchase I guess? Not sure if I should be happy for YOU or sad at the current state of affairs.... They are all great watches, show us some pics of your collection.

I guess on the plus side you get what you want and you have an AD supplying (in an overtly transactional / extortionate way) watches while making some side dough.

On the other hand, you were basically "requested" (aka : forced) to spend about $32k of additional junk at the AD that otherwise you may not have in order to have the pleasure to fork over additional tens of thousands of $$ in retail MSRP (where the AD makes additional 40-60% margin). If you have sufficient disposable income, good for you. I personally would not do that or find it appropriate from an AD to ask such things - that's about 1 step up from a Middle Eastern Bazaar.

I'm reading the WATCHOUT section of the classifieds and watching the knives falling daily... but have at it

What relationship? This is a relationship to cherish when the AD “bundles” you?
I think we are all in different financial positions, I would never buy a watch over msrp, but that is me. If OP has money to burn, it is his option to spend it as he wishes.

An earlier post of a person trying to justify buying a SS Daytona from a grey at $50K and thinking the market would keep on going up. Guessed wrong.

At least your AD is more or less upfront about the amount you need to spend to satisfy their criteria. Sounds messed up to say, but better than milking you slowly over time without actually delivering (which seems like a cautionary tale you hear often on these forums).

yes i initially was reluctant to spend the extra on unwanted stuff but my wife and daughter seem to enjoy the jewelry so its not the worse thing that could happen. In my situation i would rather be offered the opportunity to buy and turn something down than to wait forever for something that may never materialize. I would also never agree to buy x amount for a future watch delivery promise. I compared with what the bnib Pepsi's are selling for on Moda and decided id rather not wait any longer

When this 1st happened I was in shock and it took the enjoyment out of owning that 1st msrp + jewelry watch. After about 1.5 yrs I changed my thought process and figured the AD would continue to offer me watches. It was fun during covid lockdowns to get many different ones. I used to only buy maybe 1 every 5 years but got to experience 5 different ones in 2020 alone. My msrp only friends were getting nothing at all and I was used to the grey dealers being below msrp. I have never previously sold a single watch but I decided to sell off 7 rolex watches last year that (2 different grey dealers) I either no longer wore or did not enjoy as much as I thought I would. I lost on some recently acquired ones when the additional spend was factored in but made that up on older pieces I owned. Overall I'm happy with being offered the opportunities for the SS watches. The overall additional costs above msrp arent as bad on the losses on some of my cars. Ive been retired for ~9 years so all the $ for toys comes from my rental properties
