Fluted Bezel

I am deciding on fluted or smooth bezel of a Datejust-41. Since I already have a black dial Submariner, I am looking for another Rolex with white dial.

My wrist is 6.5-inch and I tried a black Explorer-42 and it was too large for my wrist. One thing that the AD told me which I agreed is a white dial looks bigger than a black dial of the same model (like Explorer-42).

I went to 2 local AD and they both do not have display models of DJ41 so I have to ask some experts here. Does a fluted DJ-41 look bigger than a DJ-41 of smooth bezel?

I have seen DJ’s with smooth bezels that look super. But the classic is Fluted. Go with what YOU like.

Fluted wears visually smaller in my opinion. But perhaps you should reconsider 36mm.

Fluted for me. To answer your question... It might look a little smaller, but even if it doesn't, get it anyway. It certainly won't look like it wears bigger.

I like fluted on 36mm, smooth on 41mm

I am retiring soon so there is no need for a dressy watch. In my mind, a bigger watch looks more sporty.

I am looking for a white-dial Rolex sport watch and there are only 2 choices: Daytona and Explorer-42. Daytona is impossible to get and the Explorer-42 is too large for my 6.5-inch wrist. This is why I am looking at a DJ-41.

Great news that a fluted DJ-41 looks smaller than a smooth DJ-41.

Retired as well but still like to dress it up for dinner and social events...

And I love the way the light plays with the fluted bezel...

On flat 7,25" wrist. Not a white or silver dial but you get the idea...

TO ME, the Smooth Bezel just somehow looks unfinished.

The Fluted Bezel says “Rolex”.

Fluted, it's a trademark.

Mine looks like a Rolex.

True. Fluted bezel is Rolex.

I did try a DJ-36 with diamond bezel and I felt it to be too small for me. Maybe I am used to large watches with my SubC and Cartier Santos Large (40mm).

Do some of you have both the SubC-40 and DJ-41? How do they compare, size wise, if you put them side by side?

SubC 40 wears slightly bigger than the DJ41. If you find the 36 too small, 41 will be perfect.

I have 7.25" wrists and thought the DJ41 was a bit too large for my wrist in terms of the size of the dial. This was with the grey Wimbledon dial. I ultimately did not love the watch and personally think it will look huge on your wrist, especially with a white dial. I do not think fluted versus smooth will make much of a difference.

I have the same size wrist and have a 36 fluted. I guess the OP likes the dinner plate look. To each their own.

I have both. DJ41 definitely feels lighter and smaller on the wrist than the SubC 40. It’s definitely thinner too. Close up, they look pretty close in size. From several feet away, the DJ41 has a lot more bling but it looks smaller than the Sub. The SubC 40 with maxi-case has great presence when you see it from 4 or 5 feet away.

Thanks for the pictures and comments.
I guess if I can wear the SubC-40, I should not have problem with white DJ-41 (size wise).

Krash: Your DJ-41 with silver dial and Jubilee looks great; perfect companion with the SubC. My plan is to get one with white dial and oystersteel bracelet. If one day the AD can get me one like yours, I would take it.

Yes, no doubt. If you can wear a SubC, you can definitely wear a DJ41. Absolutely, no doubt.

A white or silver dial goes great with a black dial Submariner. Honestly, that’s a perfect combination. No need for any other watches.

I expressed an interest back in January and got one in June. I hate to use the word “list” because I’m not sure if they actually have them, but I was able to get one without any prior purchase history at this particular AD.

6.5 inch wrist here.

I chose the DJ36 over the 41. I can pull off a sub as the dial is the same size as the DJ36, but the DJ41 on my wrist is all dial. The DJ41 wears much bigger than a Sub in my opinion.

Nice thing about the DJ is that there are so many options.

That said, to me the flutted bezel is synonymous with the DJ. I’d look at the 36 and 41 to see which one you like

What? The dial of a Sub is the same size as the dial of DJ-36?
