Dressy Enough?

By 2022 standards yes it is dressy. Days of wearing a 2 hander on leather are dying in most circles.

I tend to agree as I have a very soft spot for the Exp II as a model as well.
I've have collected every reference of the Exp II and the black dialed 5 digit was probably the most versatile out of all of them by a good margin. I had worn it for every setting and every occasion without any second thoughts

But what would I know? I wore my JC to my own wedding as it was my wedding gift from my wife

Agreed.
But then again I've lived through those times in the past and a classic 2 or 3 hander on leather has never really gone away completely and there is still no substitute for it in certain settings. IMO.
I see recently that there was one 3 hander watch on leather that was described as "the quintessential expression of understated everyday casual elegance", and looking at the watch from that perspective I have to wholeheartedly agree.
I couldn't say that about the Exp II in any flavour as much as I love them

That has to be a new category of watch style that deserves some exploration(no pun intended).

Despite being a great looking watch, I personally think a proper dress piece would be a better match for your suit and the event you'll be attending. So if you happen to own one, that would be my choice. If not, enjoy your evening all the same.

I tend to agree.
However, the definition put forward is slightly flawed in that it outlines a PM piece as being the acceptable standard.
I have a Stainless Steel GS as my dedicated dress watch that is polished all over in such a manner that it could easily match it with some of the very best PM out there. Especially under a long sleeve cuff
The goal posts have moved since GS has gone global instead of JDM
There are also some nice offerings out of Switzerland in Stainless Steel that would certainly suffice as well

I looks awesome! Great looking watch. I wear my sub with a jacket all the time. Most people there will likely be wearing Apple watches, if anything. No one cares and if they do they’re being pretentious.

Personally, I wear a dress watch with a suit — a Lange or Reverso. I’d wear a Rolex is that was my only watch. But I do believe a multi watch collection can benefit with something more simple on leather — but that’s just me and people should do what they want.

It’s a sports/travel watch.

I can see your shoes and can tell you are a dapper fellow.

Go get something on a strap with no complications. Imagine how nice a tank, Calatrava, or ultra thin would look with your suit.

It was a great wedding. Now back at the hotel and the comment about Apple Watches was true… I saw mostly bare wrists, Apple watches, and a few tags/omegas/etc..

The expy II worked just fine for me :-)

I have been thinking about getting a Tudor 1926 on a strap though for these types of occasions. Seems like a great value for a nice looking dress watch. 41mm with silver dial, gold indicies, and a brown leather strap.
