Tumi expandable briefcase or backpack

I'm looking for a bag I can take back and forth to the beach(house), client partner and private equity meetings. A day of clothes, papers, mbp, ipad air, etc. I bought the expandable briefcase today but now have been thinking maybe a backpack is better and am contemplating returning it and buying a larger backpack.

I'm 33 and in the tech world consultant and startup executive. I do wear suits but often just wear a blazer usually without a tie.

It's not Tumi and I am sure Paul will be along soon to give you sage Tumi advice, but I have a large Oakley backpack called the kitchen sink. Totally awesome. Heavy duty, spot on bottom for a pair of shoes/change of clothes, a place for a laptop and files and tons of other pockets. Also had a great rigid style compartment on the top to store your sunglasses without them getting crushed. About $150 or so. Best money I ever spent on luggage.

If you want a Tumi, there are several options, the one I use for the beach/gym/general is the alpha 2. It is designed for business with a laptop compartment but works great at everything https://ie.tumi.com/p/tumi-t-pass®-b...pack®-026578D2

Tumi is well made and a solid choice, but I don't think that a nylon backpack works with a suit.

I've seen it done, but I wouldn't ever wear a backpack into a business meeting....

Same here. Especially if dressed better than "business casual" branded polo and chinos.

This is my opinion also however, it seems like many consultants use them. Many large firms even have their company logos stitched on them

I think i'm going to keep the bag and maybe add a backpack later. Last question the bag I got is like a polyester canvas, will it hold up well or should I pay about $20 more and get the nylon ballistic?

I was just having fun, but certainly I would go with the ballistic nylon, I have had great success with it on my Tumi messenger bags and Montblanc bags over the years.

I use a Tumi backpack with a laptop fold out compartment. Very useful when traveling, especially via smaller airports that don't have a designated Pre check line. Also, it helps separating a work laptop and papers from clothes in the main compartment. And the ample supply of compartments makes life easier. Recently I carry my GoRuck GR1 and love, but that's another step toward casual/under cover.

Cool. i traded the canvas for the nylon expandable brief and added a large nylon backpack.

I could have got a leather divider bag which was faitly big but I webt wih a larger nylon backpack. I figured i would use it more for clothes etc and split the tasks between the breif and the backpack.

TheVTCguy hooked me up with an awesome TUMI Backback I use daily. I wear a suit or blazer every day but also don't need anything too flashy. It's perfect for what I need but I think it would work well in every situation. What I love about it is that it has the loop where it can ride on top of a rolling suitcase. They aren't cheap but it will absolutely be the first thing I look at next time I'm in the market.

If you can handle the casual look it is a beast. It is a big bag. They call it the kitchen sink for a reason.

When travelling I use the Tumi T-pack too; I think that you will love it.

When flying it holds my 15" laptop and everything I need for carry-on. After getting to the destination, it doubles as my camera-bag.

The heavy duty nylon is almost indestructible although It does add a bit of weight..
