Icon20 Cant decide Patek 5164a or AP 26331IP?

Hey I would love to get some honest opinions from you guys please

I am in a position to trade my 5164a 2016 for 26331IP 2018 as a direct exchange both used in great condition (around 44000 usd)

What do you think? I just love the dial of 26331IP after I saw it today

Or should I keep 5164a? What would you do?

I also like to ask 26331 IP owners: does the bezel scratch much more easily than the steel version ROC?

Thanks a lot

You will lose about $10k in that trade; but the 26331ip is stunning

To me that would be a big mistake. Do what feels right for your collection.

Big fan of the 5164 so its a no from me, the IP is a cool piece but not seen many incomings here, maybe the bezel scares people off.

If we take out the value of both watches and consider them as what they are
Would it be a still no?

If you just decide purely on their beauty of the dial, strap/bracelet and movement
Would AP win in this case or you guys still prefer the 5164a

thanks

I would do the trade because I don’t like the Aquanaut and 26331 is spectacular.

My thoughts too, I love the Nautilus & Royal Oak but don’t understand the attraction to the aquanaut even though I know it’s meant to look understated I just think it looks underwhelming.

Interesting you say value as the 5164 has been my fave SS watch for over 5 years but before the hype the price was ridiculous I thought for a lowly SS so I didn't buy even with a 20% discount, but a couple of years ago I decided I want what I want and had been thru a few Rolex PMs to know it was time, so I pulled the trigger at a small discount just before the price took off. For me it has a beautifully crafted, elegant dial, love the 3D numerals, the subdial, the grey sunburst, the light weight and the useful comp ... and now great resale too, so just a great all rounder for me.

I would sell the aquanaut for market price myself and then buy the 26331IP ... but the 5164a is my favorite casual watch so I would not do it personally but also haven’t seen the platinum sparkle in person so maybe that would change my mind. Last but not least I love the travel time feature. One of the few mechanical watch features that is actually useful in my opinion.

I'm biased having the IP but would vote for it 100%.

Don't let seller talk you into limited edition as a selling point as 500 of these were produced.

Not a CHANCE. The 5164 is my favorite daily Patek—and I love that AP but wouldn’t part with the 5164 for it.

I would not ever do this trade, but that's just me. Beautiful, elegant useful Patek for yet another sort of L/E, oversized A/P R/O chronograph. Hurts to even contemplate.

I think it's unfair to say the RO Chronos are 'oversized', as it depends upon what one likes and is used to. Having preferred and worn bigger watches for many years that's my preference and in all in honesty an ROC seems a bit small, although in actuality its probably the perfect size for me. However, my newly acquired Rolex BLRO does seem too small. The 26631IP is a beautiful watch and would be much preferable to the PP, but that's just my opinion.

Hi guys thank you for all the discussions

I HAVE made the exchange as:
(1) I already have the Nautilus 5990 so still have a travel time watch
(2) the MSRP price of the AP is actually more expensive!
(3) Just wanna try different materials than stainless steel

and when I saw it today for the first time in the light - WOW its really took my breathe away: to me this just confirms my decision
and its not heavy at all :)

Thanks again guys

Congrats my man! Yes, the weight should be similar to steel because titanium is 60% the weight of steel on the bracelet but Platinum bezel and links go the other way.

Good decision!

Breath taking criteria trumps everything else.

Congrats in advance! The 26331IP is a very impressive ROC visually speaking. Only do be careful not to scratch the highly polished Pt bezel.

You're right, it is unfair to say that the RO Chronos are oversized, but that's just my opinion.
However, A/P does seem to pop out a lot of chronographs, whether RO or ROC, most on the high side of 40mm. And a lot of them are L/Es. And I don't see how adding a platinum bezel should increase the value of this particular model by $20K. I've owned a three A/P chronos and my experience was that they do not hold their value, RO buyers want the basic three hand model or the 15202.
I don't dislike the 26631IP but on a trade basis I definitely think the guy taking the 5164a is getting the better end.

I have never been a fan of the Aquanaut. Looks like a kids watch to me and design wise to my eyes its a flop. Without the Patek brand name many people wouldn't look twice at it.

The 26331IP is one of my favourite watches so I am very biased towards it. I wear mine regularly.
