Turnbull hosted two virtual tastings last week, very interesting and because it’s their wine maker, it’s not sales driven at all. I’m a big fan of their Black Label, and all their wines for that matter.

https://m.youtube.com/user/TurnbullWines

I was planning to be in Napa/Sonoma in April, so these virtual tastings are as good as it gets for me. Any one else seeing these virtual tastings?

I participated in a Rivers Marie virtual event last week. Thomas Rivers Brown and his winemaker, Will Segui, were both on and actively participating. The depth of knowledge presented about the various vineyards, winemaking process, etc. was just awesome.

Missed that one but participated in Jamie Kutch’s the week before.

Not my favorite producer but despite my snobbish tendencies there are no flies on Jadot. This village makes some of the most appealing Burgundies on the planet! I'm decanting this right now, should be ready in about 8 hours...

2009 Cliff Lede Poetry.

Delicious. Way more sediment than I would expect from a 2009. Extremely dry, but in a good way. I get lots of baseball glove leather, again, in a good way.

One of my favorite Napa producers. Had the 92 in Grand Cayman in January. Those were better days!

Nice. Have only had the Poetry a few times. I’m finding 09 Napa to be drinking great.

Last nights wine. ‘14 is such an approachable vintage, yet this still needed a lot of air to come around, which is a good thing in my book. Showed greats

I have a bottle if ‘06 lying around. Interested to know if you think the 2009 still had legs?

The 2009 was great. I like to taste everything before I decant. The 2009 was a bit harsh at first and opened up really nicely. I would assume the 2006 still has legs, but might need a 3+ hours in the decanter.

My personally philosophy - I don't buy wine to look at it. I buy it to drink and enjoy. Open it! If you save it for a "special occasion" you might not ever open it.

So, as some of you may know, I’m a bit of a wino and a less common fact is I also grew up in Alabama. For the last year, I’ve been doing some goofy wine videos on FB to entertain friends. Mostly just being silly, but toward the end of last year started actually working in just “a little” real wine info into each of them too. In this one from tonight, just a little info about why I find Willamette Pinot Noirs more interesting than CA Pinot Noirs. Hope “ya’ll” enjoy it!

Life is a like a box of a wine ordered online: Sometimes you get this one with a rapturous bouquet of black currants then a mid tone of rounded mocha and finishes off with a toasty and slight burnt oak. Masarap. Mabango.

It's just all about health, happiness & family. The rest are just necessary inconvenience we have to deal with.
