Looking for a mountain/road hybrid..

My days of flying down hills, jumping logs, and smashing my head against a boulder are over. However I'm not quite ready for a beach cruiser full time yet. Looking for suggestions on a comfortable hybrid, more of a upright ride, but still be able to get after it if needed. Pictures and comments would be awesome..

How about something like a 29er HT with skinny tires?

You can still have a second wheelset in case you want to ride off-road

I did the same a few years ago (or more-LOL)....I bought a Salsa La cruz (Cyclocross bike) and raised the stem, added additional brake levers on the top side to make it more comfortable. I've owned many bikes but this one I actually love. I've tried to go the same route for my son and I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for. The hybrid bikes are too 'soft' for harder riding and mountain bikes are overkill.

Let us know what you find!
