East Midlands Airport (near where the chap is from) gave me some grief for wearing my Submariner through arrivals when i arrived from a non EU country. They said I had to prove that the Watch was not purchased on my travels through a receipt. I tried to be helpful, however I just became petulant because I couldn't seem to win.
I offered to pay the duty and have it refunded when I could produce a receipt but they wanted to seize the Watch. In the end I just said arrest me! Funny. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Really sorry, but whilst I couldn't give the exact figure, I definitely knew (as do most of the population) that there's a limit to the amount of goods you can bring back to the UK.

Switzerland is a tricky one as not everyone is aware it is not in the EU, and so the benefit of the doubt should be given to the traveller. And if he offers to pay the duty then and there then there is no reason to confiscate the watch unless they suspected him of being a dealer, which the judge and the evidence clearly determined he was not.
