5164A Availability
Afternoon All,
For those of you that have this watch, can I ask you how long it took you to acquire it once you had approached the AD? I know for 5711s and 5167s, the wait is obscene and measured in years without an AD relationship. I'm curious about the 5164. I imagine it should be easier, but these are not normal times it seems. Thanks. Best, TA |

In some ways, that's very surprising. The 5167A is $20k and the 5164A, $36k. One would think the price differential would mean the former is much more difficult to get as more can get into PP, and the latter somewhat easier with fewer buyers. Remarkable to think that many are waiting to spend $36k on a 5164A, when one could buy a 5167A plus a 116500LN Daytona (plus a little change) or a Skydweller (with zero change). Reveals something about the current SS craze that has gripped so many.
Curious. |

Thanks. That's what I would think. 6-12 months at most. Perhaps 18 months at a push. After all, I would imagine the percentage of buyers spending nearly $40K on a watch is a damn site fewer than those spending nearly $20k--and I acknowledge that both sums are staggering and well beyond most, and every watch buyer I know bar a very select few. The few serious collectors I know have an upper ceiling of sub $20k. Also, I note your comments re security, clasp, etc. Appreciated. Best, TA |

I appreciate your thoughts, and think you make a good point on price. Yes, I confess to the shock on seeing some pay over MSRP for the 5167 and nearly double for the 5711. How long did it take you to get your 5167? Its a gorgeous piece. |

I was told 2019.
I hope it’s true.

It took well less than a year. Having an established relationship with an AD helps, especially when they know you are a genuine fan of the brand. I have a Rolex AD and a Patek AD. With both, I was clear from the beginning that I had no interest in securing watches from other ADs. Many people work with several ADs to shorten wait times. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm loyal and can be patient, so my setup works well for me.

@s.m.b you are 100% correct. I was told by my Patek and Rolex AD that Patek corporate highly prefers someone who has purchased all their Patek pieces from the same AD and not multiple AD's throughout the country. I was told this is the major deciding factor for Patek on application pieces and highly sought after models. I believe it because my local AD got me a 5167a, 5711/1a-011, and daytona all within a 1 year time frame.

That's interesting. If the 5167A has a 1-2 year waiting list, and the 5164 is harder to get, seems as if great patience will be the order of the day. That's handy |

It was 8 months for me after Baselworld 2012. I was smitten by the attractive complication of this timepiece since I travel frequently to different time zone. At that time, it was not a popular watch, more so from an Aquanaut line. How time has changed.

I visit an AD in Florida one year ago, and I could get a 5164 the next day. I didn't use the offer. Then I visit the same dealer in August, but then they didn't sell if you didn't already was a customer, this happened only 8 month later. So I visit my AD in Nordic instead and had to wait 1 week, but then I have a track record since before.
