Omega Speed Master 35th Anniversary “panda”

Hi all.
As I’ve said previously I’m looking to add a Speedmaster to my collection. What are people’s thoughts on the 35th anniversary model? It’s a lot more than other speedys but this along with the Mitsukoshi one really catch my eye every time. Is it worth the money? (£8.5k)

I didn’t get the Speedmaster before but the more I read into it the more I understand the appeal.

I love panda/reverse panda dials, and this is no exception. If you're going to embark on the hunt, however, I'd suggest going all in and looking for a Mitsukoshi version, so you get a clean dial, without the red 35th anniversary wording.

If you're a little dismayed by the few examples of the Mitsukoshi in existance, it doesn't necessarily need to be an "original" Mitsukoshi, as the dials were available for purchase during a short time and many modded regular speedmasters with the panda look. Those watches come up for sale from time to time and don't have a significant premium over the regular speedy (at least not as much as the LEs do).

Good luck.

Cool watch and I like mine.....but out of the Mitsukoshi, 35th Apollo XI, and the new panda Tokyo 2020....I prefer the Tokyo 2020.

I tried looking for the Mitsukoshi version but the one I’ve seen was even more money. I’m going to look into the replacement dial option!

Now if they’d just sell the Tokyo 2020 outside of Japan, I’d be a happy man.

Had one once and sold it for a fine return, although not as much as that one costs. Speedmaster Professionals wear pretty much the same, so it’s just the effect of colours that make a difference to the look and legibility. For that money I would want the full set, which includes a unique box and certificate. Also, be casreful about originality. Just like the Mitsukoshi mod/franken mentioned by others, this dial and the unique caseback were available for a time, so originality can be faked.

i prefer the mitsu dial cuz it's devoid of any color or inscription adornments.
i do, however, like the longer markers that are on the 2020 tokyo dial.
