Sbgw231

Looking to get a GS. This will be my first and I like the SBGW231 because I think it best captures the essence of the brand. I would be adding it to my current core rotation consisting of Tudor Red Rose, Omega FOIS, Rolex DJ 116200 blue index, and Reverso 85th anniversary duoface—watches that in my opinion capture the essence of each brand. What do you all think?

Also I’ve had good success buying from an AD that has been recommended by people on this forum so if you know an AD who is willing to work with me on price please do PM me.

I think it's a great idea....very much agree the simple and pureness of the sbgw231 is a nice representation of what GS represents without the fluff.

It’s a really fantastic watch that still gets a lot of wrist time in my collection!

There were complains regarding small bubbles on the edge of the crystal for this model (box crystal). Do are search here or Google it for more details.

It’s a beautiful piece and one I’m considering myself. It certainly calls back to the brands origins and is very elegant. If you’re really after the core of each brand, I might argue a spring drive movement would capture GS, at least in its modern form.

Here's the thread: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=762807

I really had to search for the bubbles on my watch... not noticeable unless the watch is at a certain angle under magnification. That said, some watches might be worse than others.

Thanks for sharing. I did not know that this was an issue. I'm also baffled by GS' response that it was within "spec."

I guess it depends on how you define "essence". In my opinion, the Snowflake SBGA211 is the core essence of GS design philosophy and craft. Just be aware it is a little large in dimension and the bracelet is a little lacking, hard to adjust due to the use of pins and collars.

The SBGW231 is also very, very nice and can't go wrong with that selection either.

The AD that I have bought watches from in the past did not have one in stock, but ordered one for me. Just paid the deposit, so hopefully I get it soon! This is the third watch that I bought from this AD within the year, and I'm on their list for the Daytona, so hopefully I get the call for it soon too!

Nice, congrats! Definitely recommend looking at alternate strap options too!

To anyone else considering the SBGW231, you might also look at the SBGW235, which has a blued second hand and comfortable Beads of Rice bracelet. Also, the dial is a touch warmer in tone.

Here is my old branding SBGW035:

Also - I think the ‘bubbles’ people mention are actually shaping marks at the bottom edge of the deep box crystal. Mine has them - but they only are visible with a 10X loupe. Not an issue to me.

Basically one of my favourite pieces out of my entire collection. I have it on a custom alligator strap made by Combat Straps. :)

I'm an owner as well. It's really well done. I enjoy how it plays with light. The case is fantastic and you just feel and admire the workmanship that went into the watch every time you wear it. I highly recommend. I can recommend a good US AD if you need one. PM me for details.

Thanks for the input and offer. I just ordered it through my AD that I have bought watches from. They were very accommodating.
