Torn about pulling the trigger!

My AD has a Datejust TT 41 available and I am inches from running to my car to buy it. But I'm worried I just want it because it's what's available. I love that white dial, it is at 12,500 and this would be my first big purchase and I am developing a great relationship with the SA. I more had in mind a steel datejust in blue, explorer I, GMT master 2, submariner. I've worked really hard to save up, and I know I would love this watch. But man I'm in a dilemma. Help! (Sorry for the bad quality picture.)

How would you rank the 5 watches you mention? I wouldn’t settle for something just because it’s in stock.

Buy what you want and like, not just what’s available. It’s a big purchase. Good luck

I would put the GMT Master 2, explorer, Blue SS Datejust, Milgauss, Submariner, Explorer in that order. I didn't anticipate trying to decide where a TT Datejust would be, but that dial is amazing.

Just the fact you’re asking I’d pass on it and hold out for what you really want. Last thing you’d want is to settle and resell it later on to buy one of the references you originally wanted.

Torn about pulling the trigger!

Buy the watch and keep saving for another, the watch will hold its value and you will appreciate both of them

A little more to add, this may open the door to some of my more wanted pieces, I've been talking with this SA for about a year and a half to 2 years and he's great. This may get me a seat at the table in the future to get a difficult to get watch too.

If I were apprehensive at all , I would wait for a watch that I have no doubt I want . That’s a lot of money for a watch you “might” regret buying .

It might be a big decision but the fact that you have a doubt leaves no doubt. If you really wanted it, you probably would have been in the car, not in here.

If I've been wrong in my assessment - congratulations! Great watch. I would have gone for a Sky Dweller white TT, but each to our own.

I think that if you can afford it, and if you really want or like it, you should go get it.

If not, I'd candidly just wait for what I really want, or even save for it / wait for it to be ready to be picked up at the AD.

Torn about pulling the trigger!

The second thoughts is your gut feeling telling you to get what you really want.

Do it right the first time.

What many have said, if you're questioning and hesitating rather than acting - I dont know if its going to be genuine. But you have the final say.

Buy what you really want, don't settle. I bought a DJ41 white dial, sticks, oyster bracelet, smooth bezel. I kinda liked it and bought it because it was available. At the time I thought it was the perfect watch, but what I really wanted was DJ41, blue dial, sticks. jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel. One became available and I traded it in, and I couldn't be happier with the new watch!

Take your time, wait for the one you can't keep your eyes off...the one where you don't have to ask others what they think, the one that you have to talk yourself into liking.

Good luck!

Wait for the steel DJ in blue. That will open the door for other watches and you actually want it. Don’t settle for a TT you never thought about before. I stated either a similar steel DJ then came a new BLNR now I have WG Daytona OF in line. The DJ helps to get the ball rolling but don’t buy one you don’t want. Steel holds it value very well. Not sure about TT and I’ve never inquired about one with the greys I deal with. Buying the TT may cost you more in the long run if it doesn’t retain its value as well, which has been the case in the past.

I feel your pain. The problem is that we sometimes can't know what we'll like until we see it live. So it doesn't make our list. And then it pops up and we love it ... but are hog-tied by the fact that we didn't have it on the list. If you really like it, and spending the cash isn't going to put you behind a year or more in your search for/purchase of your next -- one that is on the list -- buy it, wear it, love it and then, if another you like better comes along, sell it to fund your new purchase. Even if you lose a bit on it -- and a TT DJ is likely to lose some value in the short run -- you'll have lived life enjoying your first Rolex. That's worth the price of admission in my book.

This really put it into perspective that I know is true for me. I spent this long waiting for a Rolex, whats a couple weeks or even a year more. Thanks.

This should not be a decision you are torn about. If you are then it’s a “no”. Wait for the one you really want.

Everything on your list should be attainable with patience, except for the GMT. Wait for what you want, not just what they have. TT OP should be fairly easy to get in the future if you change your mind.

Thank you guys so much, sometimes we know what we want but want to hear it from someone else first. It's been at the AD for about 3 weeks and the SA told me to stop by Monday even if I've decided against it. I'm going to regroup, think about it evenly this weekend and not stress about it. I'll see it Monday with a better perspective and clear eyes. Thanks everyone, so much. I'll wait for what I want and hope for a little luck.

just based on reading this thread i think you would regret it, obviously its your choice but as you specifically asked for advice i would urge you to politely decline and explain its not quite what you were after.

Yeah, I'm going to wait for what I've been working towards. Seeing that white dial sent me into a temporary daze filled with anxiety and desire. Weight off my shoulders.
