Icon20 The One

Why hello there! I'm new! I recently started my dream job. It is a position I had been aspiring to reach since 2009 and, over that decade+ period, it has been one crazy adventure: love, loss, failure, achievement, addiction, recovery—life is definitely a crazy thing!

I want a watch to celebrate my successes, to reflect that I am someone who can learn from my failures, that speaks to my willingness to work hard as hell, and has a style that both reflects the past while also looks towards the future: I want a Rolex.

Only one is in the budget, and it would be the watch I would wear every day in all situations (Except when cleaning up dog poop. That just seems wrong.) It would be the one.

I'm here to learn a little more about the process of buying them. Additionally, I'm torn between the current reference model Submariner and the current reference model Sea Dweller. Having realized that ever seeing both in stock simultaneously at a dealer is probably unlikely, I bring with me an intent to hunt for pictures. I currently wear a 42mm Breitling and am completely torn as to whether I would like the 41mm or 43mm more.

So hello!

Welcome. I would strike up a relationship with your local AD (authorized dealer) and see if they have anything for you to try on. SS models may be difficult to come by, but they may have the gold or two-tone equivalent to look at. Once you decide what you want, ask if you can put a deposit and then wait.

Welcome, congrats on the new gig! If you’re wearing a breitling now, the 43 might be a great fit. I would head into an AD and talk to them.

Welcome to the forum. We all know the talking watches, John Mayer wears a Patek picking up dog poop, so your sub or seadweller will do you just fine. You cant go wrong with either of those options, its just a matter of trying them on and finding which one fits you best.

Thank you all so much for the warm welcome! This seems like a great forum!

I'm relocating shortly and I spoke to the AD that will be closet to where I am moving to. We spoke for about 30 minutes and it was a delightful conversation. They let me know that demand is extremely high, but that they were always excited to get new folks into the world of Rolex, especially when there is a lot of significance attached to the watch. So I'll be crossing my fingers and keeping the faith! (and in the meantime posting and looking at pictures on here!)
