new to board

I am thinking of purchasing a brand new two tone datejust that has a jubilee band with a mother of pearl dial. The jewler said that he doesnt see too many of these watches with the mother of pearl dial around. Would this be a good watch to purchase for someone who is a first time rolex purchaser. I really like the watch and would like anyones opinion on it if at all possible.

Thanks

Welcome aboard, tchase!

It would help if you posted a pic of the afrementioned watch and got people's opinion on it. Generally speaking, though, you can't go wrong with a DJ - the type of dial is irrelevant to the workings of the 3135 movement, which you'll find is one of the most reliable automatic movements around. Make sure that you push for the full 15% discount, though - DJs aren't subject to the limited-supply conditions that affect the prices of sports models.

Welcome tchase. Like James said, if you can post some scans of the watch, it can help the members help you out. You can't go wrong with a DJ it's a great watch.

Welcome to TRF tchase. You can't go wrong with any Rolex, they are very dependable. The DJ with jubilee is not my cup of tea but I'm not the one buying the watch. If you like it take the plunge, I don't think you will regret it.

Hi tchase,

And a big welcome to TRF. On TT models as well as YG models, you can push the dealer as hard as you like. Start with 20~22% and see what happens. Tell him you're a genuine buyer and he might bite.

Also remember that Rolex has changed the styling of the new DJs, so I hope you are getting the newer one. Another important factor is that the new Jubilee bracelet has ALL SOLID links with a concealed clasp. It's a big change over the older bracelet, so make sure that you are spending all that money of yours on the new model and not the older one.

For example: the older TT DJ model will have the ref.no. as 16233; but the new one will have an additional 1 in front of this number making it 116233.

Good luck - JJ

Let me add my welcome to TRF, tchase.

And you've got yourself a great watch. As others have said, you can't go wrong with a TT DJ. It works for both sport and dress and is one tough watch (as are all Rolexes). Congratulations on your new acquisition. Wear it well and enjoy it for years to come.

Oh, and do post some pics. One of our favorite pastimes is drooling over pics of great watches.

Hi! and Welcome!

Here is a Rolex ad with the great Scottish racing driver Jackie Stewart. Interesting the model associated with the driver is the 18K DJ.
I believe this ad is from the maybe mid 60's??

Well I never! Where are the Submariners? the Professional watches?
And what about size? Well maybe Jackie had a small wrist???
Looks ok!!

Enjoy your new DJ TT. You are in a fine lineage!!

Maybe...then again, maybe not. No harm in trying...you're the customer, always remember that!! Dealers are sometimes "desperate" to off load their TT stock which is rather "slow" compared with the SS Sports range.

Ask him how he wants the payment....cash or credit card? In some places, the seller has to pay the credit card company 3%, so they prefer cash. Not sure how it works in your neck of the woods, but just go for it....what have you got to lose?

Good luck - JJ
