337, 338 Distribution Question

I'm curious to know that if a given number of 800/700 M are produced in 2011, are they all released that year,or do Panerai hold them for years to come and trickle out a few here and there?
I've read that these are a limited run (not a "Special Edition") and are now discontinued.I've seen a few for sale on the forums, but not in the dealers and when I call them they are very vague as to if they will ever get any?
Is this typical with all models?

My knowledge is that OP have a deliberate strategy of small production numbers and trickling the release. So a model with a specification of manufacture for a given year (say 2009) may be offered for sale in 2010. I guess it also depends the time of manufacture. I am guessing that if it was manufactured in late 2009 - then in all likelihood it would only be available for sale in 2010.

Thanks Bryan.I'm new to buying these and although I can't afford to speculate, there are a couple of watches i've been attracted to and wonder if I should bite the bullet or stand back and wait. The popularity and hype of Panerai can be a curse and a blessing ! I tend to follow my heart and shop like i'm buying art .......buy only what I love / enjoy and forget about investment.
