would you flip for AP 15400

I am considering flipping my PAM 572 for an Audemars Piguet 15400st white dial.
I find the white dial mesmerizing although I had a ROO 26470st which I wasn't crazy about and traded away. What are your thoughts, would you flip ?

I wouldn't. I just don't dig the AP design. I don't think AP age well at all.

No, I'm not much a 15400 fan. If for a 15300 or 15450, maybe, though the 572 and one of those would be a very solid duo.

I would do it. I personally have both a Pam and an AP. Prefer my AP in almost every way, comfort, look, function, ect..

I have a couple PAMs and some APs and the APs get more attention. But still wear my PAMs so save for both would be my answer.

That is my concern with AP also. They are so pretty when new but the aged ones I see online don't look good in pics. Panerai and Rolex age (wabi sabi) very well imho. Almost look better when aged sometimes. I swear my 232 looks better.

It looks in really good shape.

I've seen some in the used section of the dealers case that didn't look nearly so nice. If I get an AP, I'd likely stick to ceramic, but they are too big for me. That Diver looks so good.

I'm not a fan of the AP design, so I wouldn't do it.

However, I'd leave both behind in a zombie apocalypse so I guess my opinion doesn't count for much

As much and as permanent as my PAM 351 is in my collection, I would flip all my watches for my AP 15400 silver dial if I had to.

AP is a whole other ballgame vs my others which all feel similar in terms of 'quality' if that makes any sense (Omega, Rolex, Panerai).

That said, it is a design you either love or hate. The fact that you're considering it suggests the former.

I owned almost exclusively Panerai's in mid 2000's when it was a super hot niche product. They took my attention away from Rolex in fact. Then Panerai prices went into the stratophere where they rivaled entry level AP's so I started looking at and buying those. I owned a couple of different Divers, Safari, Black, 44MM SS, 15400, and Jumbo but ultimately traded them away. I had some issues with the power reserve and accuracy and developed a love / hate relationship with the octagonal bezel. Sometimes I marveled at the Genta design, other times, I hated how obtuse and tall it is. I then got into Patek's and ultimately lost interest in those.

I've been back into Rolex in the last couple of years (specifically the 5 digit sports references) and just recently bought back a couple of basic Panerai's. The secondary prices have dropped so much that they represent a strong value prop. 10 years later I find myself admiring them as before. I've come full circle.

I have no interest in getting back into APs currently.

One of my friend was told by a AP service centre recently that his 15202 has rust on the case(?)...I mean seriously??? They clean up the case but he is a bit wary of the brand now.

I would go with whatever is in your heart and that can never be wrong when you are making a decision based on an emotional desire.

The Royal Oak is a classic. Does it age well? Ah, yes, looks pretty current for a watch born in 1972.

Some variations over the years have had dials that do seemed aged today. But the watch you are looking at is the classic and plain variation, it won't age. Go for it.

My friend was not pulling my leg...he is not that type of person.

The octagonal bezel design doesn't age well to me once you have a few hairline scratches running across the bezel and the case of the watch... plus the AP had rust issue my friend bought up.

I wouldn't do it. I only own two Panerai's and have only had them for a short time. In the past I have admired them but never felt like I wanted to add one due to their shere size. I have always owned Rolex's, IWC's and Breitlings in my collection. I don't like AP and think their general design is ugly. I like my Panerai's well but the first one I bought was a 356 which went to my son. I prefer my 1392 due to the 42mm size. Right now I wouldn't even consider an AP no matter what.
