Screening Buyers.

Hope this is an ok question and the right place.

I got a decent offer on a watch I am selling but the buyer has only been a member for a few months with 0 posts. I'm not as picky selling as when buying but that does not feel right.

What do you all do in situations like this?

I made my first purchase last month after being registered on this site for nearly a decade. Minimal posts.

The seller, whose references checked out fine, asked me sort of the same question. I figured it was because I wasn't well known, so I did a bank wire and insisted that he waits for all to clear to ship.

It works both ways, as I wouldn't have liked to do a bank wire to a seller without some sort of audit trail in terms of history.

Gut feel is also important. Best way is to insist on a cash transfer and then ship insured.

The funds you receive must be in a secure form (i.e., bank wire transfer, Western Union, Moneygram, etc.) before the goods are shipped--otherwise you'll be at risk. PayPal purchases made with credit cards can be reversed and a seller can be left with little or no recourse.

Yea, I need to look into bank wires. New to me. But the watch I was selling is only a couple thousand and the funds are long gone from paypal with no connection to my accounts. But much higher than that I need to look at better forms of payment as paypal has screwed me over a few times by holding funds in limbo. I will not sell on ebay anymore because of this, they will hold until buyer leaves positive feedback on many items if you are not a high volume seller

Yup. Gotta be willing to walk away.

I love buying and selling from people who have a reputation because it takes a while to build a good rep and most wont throw it away for a quick buck.
