Where are the older Panerai watches?

I'm wondering this... If I go on eBay and type in "Panerai" I get about 3000 hits. Of that, under 500 are used, and most of the used are very recent model years.
Now, if I type "Rolex", I get about 20000 hits, with almost 13000 used from the 60's 70's 80's 90's and through out the 2000's.

Where are the older Panerai watches?

I'm a Rolex guy, but love the look of the Panerai's... Especially the 312 (as I am considering adding one to my collection). I'm trying to figure out this brand, I know they've been around for a while, so where are they?

Panerai only started contemporary production in the '90s and their yearly production is a fraction of Rolex's.

If you mean vintage they are rather rare birds. As mentioned Panerai makes a fraction of the watches Rolex makes.

Simple explanation why you don't see them a lot! people just don't want to part out and sell them, they're in love with their watches especially this vintage or the older pams, it looks beautiful and it's been mirrored by modern pams today.

Plus the fact that older T dial Panerais command sick price tags. If I were listing one, I'd do it on Siti, TZ, here, etc., not eBay.

please Louie which model/year is that?..looks very mysterious, in a great way..looks like it will have many war stories to tell ;)

to the OP, I recently read at another forum where someone shared his experience of a Paneristi get together event he attended. He said LOTS of people showed up, jet travelled across continents for meetings and get togethers (atleast three different GTs in three different places) with other Paneristis and he said everyone ATLEAST owned 5 Pams...I think thats where most of the modern ones have gone.

and the vintages, well I dont think the ENTIRE Pam production combined, before Richmont merger, was more than three or four thousand watches max...please correct and enlighten me if I am wrong...so these vintages (before 90s) are very collectable.

oh and just a thought: since they were ONLY issued to militaries before commercial merger, most vintages got destroyed in wars and operations...that can possibly be, atleast with some watches of the past...just a thought :)

regards, Asad
