Without question. I think it is pretty much the perfect Pam...I just can't pull off 47mm.

372 in 44mm is basically 233 without the date, second counter and GMT function and some minor tweaks.. and I do agree.. in 44mm.. they would sell like hot cakes for the skinny wrist enthusiasts lilke me!!

44mm and Less dial dominating fonts would be great
Outrageously cool if they use fonts like the original Panerai 6152-1

Wouldn't the PAM390 the closest to 372 in 44 (without the 1950 case)?

More different than alike. About all the 372 and the 390 share is gold hands and the fact that they're both a base. Case, dial color, dial design (painted vs sandwich), dial font, crown guard, movement, case back are all completely different. They are both great pieces though.

that's what fun about panerai.....at first glance, two watches can appear the same but for 3 mm, but, when you get down to the details, they are totally different pieces....so different, in fact, that it's way too easy to convince yourself you *need* both!

another thing to note is that the 372 isn't technically a "1950s case", but, rather, a hybrid meant to pay reference to a transitional period way back when....

understand what you are saying... but if someone wants a manufacture to make something that "isnt quite the same as the original one"... then all we can offer as an alternative is something "closest" or "alike" to it.

hence the suggestion of PAM390.....

(looks like its an visual issue - so, if someone wants to "compromise" the size, the im sure he/she can also compromise the dial options/style, movement etc...)

Sounds nice. Heck I would be even interested in a 111 with silver or gold hands. Me likes.

I hope not

some watches like the 249, 127, 232 and this 372 should be and stay 47mm
There is more than enough choice in 44 mm
Keep these special watches in 47

The 47mm will be the new 44...they will make all their production models in this new 372 case...remember, 372 is not a SE or LE, as some have alluded here...all panerai will come with in house movement, and msrp of 10k and north.....look at the new 422? Basically a 005 with a new 47 case...just watch....

47mm would be good for Risti's and historical junkies but ultimately could be a bad idea for Panerai's bottomline.

Its great for the ristis and the collectors, and they will continue to gobble them up.. But for the newbies, they won't know enough about the size and gravitate towards the bigger 47 cases, it's all they will know, look at the 40mm cases? They will be obsolete, the 44 on the secondary market will feed the few who likes the smaller case, but majority will pay the big bucks for the big watch .. This will further increase panerai's bottomline..they are after a whole new market.. Days of 5000 dollar Pam's are history...

You could be right, but I doubt it. 44mm is still a very large piece for just about anyone. While I think OP will produce more 47mm pieces (for instance, the 305 at 47mm is a regular production model), I still see Panerai's bread and butter in the luminor range being 44mm pieces.

I don't get the DNA stuff

I am sure the idea of a gold hand 44mm base would have been thought of as blasfomy. Now the 390 comes out and everyone loves it. Panerai makes a ton of 40mm and others. They have room to make a base 233 or a 44mm 372!
