Icon6 Black or silver on a Datejust..What are you wearing?

Hey guys,

Been racking my brain recently preparing for my first purchase.

So far I've narrowed it down to a DJ, domed/smooth bezel, SS with Oyster bracelet.

Now all I'm left with is the dial, which I narrowed down to BLACK or SILVER with either stick/baton or roman.

What have you got and which dial would you recommend?

I know it's up to me..but it's more fun sharing and being open to ideas other than mine.

PS, I was considering a blue dial as well, but I've had so many blue dial watches, I fancied a change...still open to suggestion

I don't own a DJ or DJ II, but if I ever get to buying one, it will be a white sticks or blue sticks dial WG/SS DJ II. When it comes to the 36mm DJ, I think the silver dial could be a perfect choice.

I wouldn't buy a black dial DJ or DJ II on the basis that Rolex has a lot of sports watches with black dial (Exp I, Exp II, Sub, DSSD, GMT IIC, Daytona). But if you don't plan to purchase a black dial Rolex after the DJ, then the black dial could work out well either.

Either way, you can't go wrong with a DJ

Mine was black I just recently had the dial changed to silver. I love it and wear it almost daily.

Makes sense...definitely worth considering. Thanx. Can't go wrong either way. Love the DJ!

Couldn't agree more. Great looking piece! Great choice with the black dial! Very classic indeed! That's what I'm shooting for...

Great thread, thanks!

I'm about to buy my first Rolex and down to almost exactly the same choice (sure about the stick dial, however). But having a hard time deciding between silver, black and blue. White has never even been close. Slight advantage for silver, a bit more classic, a bit less sporty...

Best,

I'm looking at a silver dialed DJ2, mainly because I have a DSSD w black face, and I feel the silver is more versatile then the black.

I'd go Silver with Romans between those options. That was my original fav until I considered the Concentric with Arabics and never looked back!

Romans are classic - you cannot go wrong either way my friend :)

Hit the nail on the head.

Go with silver romans...

Pick up a Black faced sports watch sometime after and your set

If you don't need a date feature with cyclops, consider the OP 116000.
36mm size (same as DJ)-Oyster bracelet. Silver or blue stick dial with 3-6-9 arabic.

Black is a great sporty look, but there are so many other sport models (Rolex or other) that only come in black, that the silver would get my vote. The domed bezel really works with the PCL's.

As far as the dials, my only comment is that the romans/arabics look very handsome when magnified significantly, but they aren't near as good looking on the wrist. It's tough to beat sticks for real life. To me, as nice as the romans or arabics look magnified, there isn't much room on a DJ dial and the sticks are much more balanced looking.

Mine was originally silver when I bought it in 1986. I swiched the dial to black a few years later and came back to the original when I bought the Explorer II.
