Opinions on a GMT Master II 16710 2007

Saw this piece in a local dealer. I grabbed the pics from the net: it looks great and is a complete set. They’ve circled the two dings on the case and bezel. I’d love to own a late 16710 Pepsi. The price is fair but not cheap at over $10K. What do you folks think?

Looks pretty nice to me.......you have to expect some wear on it. I got mine last year and love every minute with it. I payed a little less for mine, but they just seem to be going up...

Great watch. When its vintage there is always going to be some wear unless it's NOS.

looks real good. Minor scuffs in the bezel ring are normal and hardly noticeable. You can get a brand new one from an AD for about $ 160.

If that’s all that’s wrong with it, I think you are good to go. Is that a rectangle dial?

Looks fine to these eyes

If you do pull the trigger, I'm sure you'll be very pleased. Hard to beat the 16710

That is a perfect GMT I would not
Be surprised to find such minor
Imperfections on a new watch after
a few days. This is what they look
like after nearly twenty years of
daily wear. I was mortified when
I looked at it with magnification.
I’ll never do that again

totally agree. I bought mine after seeing pictures as well, circa 2005, I had what I thought a bad knick on the bezel however pictures will always show you the imperfection ... to be honest, when it was in my end, you could barely tell.
If you want a 5 digit GMT II, they will have some sign of wear and tbh what you have circle in your pics is VERY minor, the one on the chamfer can be "polish" out when its time to do so and the one on the bezel, you could pop it off, have it sit on the 2 hour mark so you never have to see if when you look at the watch.
chat about the price with the dealer, it is an amazing watch in the first place

That’s a pretty nice example of a late model GMT. $11k plus seems to be the going rate these days for a full clean set.

That looks like a good deal. I was looking pretty hard a couple of months ago and I didnt see any better for the price.

Thanks for all the input. I’ll check it out on the wrist hopefully after work tomorrow. I got my Explorer from the same dealer so I’ll see what I can do. This could mean the BLNR budget will be blown if I got the call soon afterwards. Agreed, the nicks are minor and the dealer is pretty good disclosing any marks in pics. Keep you posted :D

The "damage" isn't an issue. Still amazed at what these are going for.

Looks great. Just double check that the hang tag says BLRO to be sure it was born as Pepsi...only if you care of course.

I had a closer look at the watch today. It looks in fine condition. Sharp lugs and brushing as I’d expect. Probably been polished but expertly as minor marks were non existent. The damage in the pics is negligible. I could only tell under a loupe.

As I suspected, the watch is missing a few booklets. It comes with the GMT-MASTER booklet (in Chinese, registered HK). No other booklets there. I guess original seller swapped them out or someone along the line.

Jan 2007 so 3185 movement confirmed by the ‘wobble’.

I only checked condition. I didn’t check if ‘born a pepsi’. I’m taking another look on Sat. TBH, I don’t care if it was once a coke etc. should I be worried? I have a feeling of an incoming on Sat.

Looks good, there is no way in telling if an Asain/Euro model 16710 is a Coke or Pepsi. The Pepsi, Coke or Black bezel designated letter codes was a US thing.

I noticed it has the rectangular dial. Is it a Z serial? Try to negotiate on the price.

Good lord these things have gotten expensive! I had a Coke 2004 and it was a great watch. For me personally I wound up moving on to something else because I thought it looked a tad bit small on me and I wanted something with a little more weight and pressence to it. But it really was a great watch.

I have a 16710 z serial from 2007 which is still BNIB. Yours looks in very good condition for a used example, a lot better than most for a ten year old reference. Good luck with your decision making...

It is a Z serial. Does rectangular refer to the II font or something else? It is a beautiful piece and the dealer will go around $700 lower. I’m going in on Sat to make the deal or not.

Yes, rectangular refers to the II font. Good job negotiating a deal. I have a feeling we will be seeing an incoming shortly :)

That's a fine example of a 16710. It all looks good to me. Insert is genuine and it looks like the chamfers are still present on the case. The nicks are negligible IMO. I would get it at that price. The prices for these are going up everyday. Here in Europe, that would be a price for a no box/papers version.

Where did he say what the price is? I only see “over $10k”, which could be, well, any price over 10k.

Over $10K means between $10001-11K. Otherwise he would have said "over $11K". Plus he was able to negotiate $700 lower. So that would put it at between $9301-$10300. A good price considering the current market for a B&P 16710 in great condition.

Looks like a great example of a 16710. No major blemishes. Any insight into when it was last serviced? That could be one last negotiation tactic. I’ve had mine for 2+ years and love it more every day (and it’s worth more every day!). In a couple years when the price has gone up even more you’ll wish you’d pulled the trigger if you don’t.
