Need your help. Price for 20 year pappy?

At fundraising auction for school. What would be realistic price to bid?

$1200 is highest I’d go if I wanted it, but still looking for a “good” price.

Those school auctions are odd. Bought $3500 worth of tickets/silver badges/pit passes to Indy 500 at ours tonight for $1000. $3500 is the cost to buy, and you don’t find these at all, yet discounted.

My buddy won a bottle of 23 year old for $1,000 at an auction. It's damn smooooooth!

No. Went for $1500. Was out at $1200.

After auction closed 3 guys approached me and said they would have gone in, would’ve been sweet just to pop it and drink that night.

secondary market right now is right around 1400 so the 1500 dollar bid wasn't completely out of line.

That’s right about market. 15 year goes about 1050, 20 around 1500 and 23 around 1900 give or take 100.

School charity auction? $1500 is cheap, as secondary market isn't far off that number.

If one were to "theoretically" claim that Fair Market Value for the bottle is MSRP for IRS purposes regarding charitable contributions, then it's a decent bargain.
