Never got the hang up over TT watches and never will, think there's a little group-think around the whole TT thing.

Like anything, personal taste, some models rock the look, others don't, no different than any other model made of any metal IMO....eye of the beholder is what counts.

Only Rolex can bring out the real beauty of TT watches. Other hi end brands look funny.

I think it may be due to fashion over-exposure. In the 90s, two-tone was so the in-thing to have, and the president in yg. When the market shifted to everything white, it became embarrassing to wear yg jewelry in general. That trend continued for a long time with platinum leading the trend. Even display lighting shifted to white. Now yg is slowing coming back but a whole generation exposed to that shift is having a little difficulty adopting this resurgence. I started with a 2-tone sub then a president DD. I stopped wearing watches for more than a decade since. Now my watches are all SS or WG.

Interesting perspective in that article. 👍

Funny how they say two tone can be more flashy than YG. I think I agree with that.

No TT for me or yellow gold jewelry since the eighties. My first datejust was a TT on jubilee, new in 1985. My YG wedding ring was put to rest for a WG many years ago as well.

To me a TT is a SS that wants to be gold but didn't quite make it. That's why I would either get all SS or all Gold.

Depends on model. For daytona tt looks bad, for submariner i think the tt blue is stunning. In general the only tt rolex i like is the Bluesy. Maybe the ym tt rose gold choco dial

TT for dress/SS for casual. The folks who write off TT are missing some really exceptional examples.

I hadn't thought of that before. I actually quite agree with person quoted in the last two paragraphs of the article:

Quote:
No wonder some younger watch fans are starting to come around. “I personally welcome the return of two-tone,” said Zach Weiss, 32, the executive editor of the watch site Worn & Wound. “I would never wear a solid yellow gold watch. It just isn’t me. But I do like a hint of warm metal. It can add some dressiness to an otherwise sporty design, or elevate a simple dress watch to something more refined.”

“As a millennial, my experience of the ’70s and ’80s is really secondhand, so while Patrick Bateman’s two-tone Datejust might come to mind, it doesn’t really taint the concept,” Mr. Weiss added. “It’s like the nostalgic feeling you get while watching ‘Stranger Things’ — just on your wrist.”
There's just something about a TT Datejust that excites me. It's probably the way the Jubilee bracelet looks (perfect).

For now, I prefer the color to be uniform—all gold (can’t afford that) or all steel. My opinion could evolve (as I get older ;)) and wouldn’t mind owning a TT Blackbay and the CHNR.

It goes in cycles. TT was the look in the late 1980’s and into the early 90’s. It was so in style then that people still remember that and that gives it a “outdated look” in their mind. Think “Members Only” jacket. I think now yellow gold is in a down trend and anything in white metal is in vogue. I love TT and wore a Bluesy everywhere for 18 years. I feel I extracted everything from the watch and my personal style changed and I moved away from yellow gold in general. I do see myself moving back to a solid 18k one day. I would highly recomend the TT Bluesy as it is a stunning piece.

I like TT especially on a black dial black bezel watch, adds some colour to an otherwise monochrome feel. I think TT is unpopular because of two reasons, it feels like to wanted YG but couldn’t afford it, and it looks out of date (‘70s-80’s).

I truthfully think there is one major reason; they cost more. With Rolex withholding Stainless I believe many will need to take a look at their preconceptions. Personally I only have one which is my DJ 16013. It's a great watch and shows no signs of being flashy or gaudy. It looks how in my mind a DJ should look. I love the vintage look as well!! Personally I have a hard time imagining a Rolex collection without at least one TT piece. They seem pretty central in the Rolex tradition.

Picture tells more than thousand words!

I love TT’s. Classical beauty. And a certain statement: it seems that most of men are wearing SS versions. Steel everywhere. It is nice that there are some different variations out there. Different, colourful. Bluesy stole my heart, even I did not plan for getting one. If someone thinks that TT’s are too flashy, I don’t mind. It takes grandes cohones to use something slightly different.

And I love full gold versions (yet I don’t have any). And I love Steel versions aswell.

Yeah, I just love Rolex.

I really like TT Rolexes, but haven't picked one up yet. Two reasons for that. One, they don't seem to hold their value as well as SS ones. Two, the added price delta makes it harder to get all the watches I want. If I stick to SS I can get more of them....and there's so many I want!

Hopefully I'll get a Bluesy or Daytona one day.

TT: costs more than steel. This is why less popular. Simple.
PM: costs more than TT. This is why less popular than TT.
Steel: costs the least, accessible to the majority.

If TT's were the same price I am sure they would be as popular (Daytona excluded).

My own TT is a stepping stone from SS enroute to PM. It is very flash which is one of the reasons I like it. I like flash but tasteful.

It's not for everyone, some suit it some don't.. my brother for eg wears an SS GMT, he just looks ridiculous with my Bluesy on lol..

Can "you" pull off a TT? Not everyone can, everyone can wears SS though.

because its pretty contrasting and its going to divide opinions. Pinstripe suits do the same thing.

Its also not SS and its not full gold. Both of which have followers. Combining the two isnt necessarily the best of both worlds to a lot of people.

Some people like it and thats fine

I think the price argument is ridiculous. Paying 10k for a SS watch and clearly you are not price sensitive as thats a lot of money to spend on anything. If you really wanted TT or PM, you just wait a bit longer and buy what you want. Anyone paying 10k for something they really dont want is being an idiot. Its not the same thing as settling for a house or a car as you need those things. You dont need a luxury watch.

I've always had one or two around, good looking watches. I bought this 1972 TT 1675 in 2001. It's been on a TT jubilee, a TT oyster, leather and NATOs. It's currently on an Olongapo bracelet. Love this watch. :)

I got this 1968 TT 1625 Turn-O-Graph in 2014 freshly serviced from a jeweler in North Carolina. It had a new mid-case installed by Rolex during a 2006 RSC service. And unlike 99% of vintage Rolex it is truly unpolished. :)
