Everything including Daytona, should always have a date complication.

Every watch, as a minimum should include a date complication, I don’t understand why there is a non date sub, just as I don’t understand why the isn’t a date, Daytona,,,,,,

If you consider what the Daytona was created for, why do you need a date?

Why would one need to know the date when diving or when measuring lap times at the track?

I personally don't like the look of date windows, particularly when there's a cyclops over them, and I also can remember the date for the rest of the day once I've looked at it once in the morning on my computer, phone, or calendar. The Daytona, like the Speedmaster and chronographs in general look much better without a date, in my opinion. Just compare how clean and symmetrical the Submariner looks compared to the Submariner Date. That's why there are lots of different watches to suit different people's needs and wants.

Meh.

Reality is a driving and diving watch don’t really need them.

But I do personally prefer a date if given the option.

There is a no date sub because some people like it like that, pure and simple. If I want the date, a perpetual calendar, moon phases, the position of heavenly bodies, etc, then I look at my smartphone.

Are you a master of good looking designs? I’m sort of trying to be nice, but this has to be one of the worst posts I’ve read on TRF.

I prefer the date on my watch. It’s personal preference. The Speedy Pro and original JLC Reverso didn’t have a date compaction nor does the Daytona..all three are iconic. Is there some kind of watch prison to be sent to if a watch doesn’t have a date? A prison filled with cheap quartz movements!?!?

Ehh...having the date is nice, but I also like the convenience of just winding, setting the time, and moving on.

I will never buy another watch without a date complication. I've flipped everything that did not have a date because I realized how much I need it on a daily basis.

This is a big deal when you have more than one watch and you don't have or don't want winders or the watches are manual wind.

C'mon, give the guy a break. He's a relatively new member here and just trying to start a discussion. It's just an opinion. Isn't that what this forum is all about.
To the OP, I have a few watches with and a few without date windows. I can't imagine my Panerai 111 , or my Tudor BB with a date window.

Simple solution is buy yourself Tudor Big Block or Tudor Tiger Chrono if you want a date on a Daytona.

I get that some prefer the look without a date, but I agree with the OP. There are times when it isn’t as socially acceptable to pull out you phone as it is to glance at your watch. So since I have to sign and date papers all of the time, I only have watches with a date complication. I also figure that for that much money (anything North of $5k or so) it better at least tell me the date (which can be subtle) and better at least allow me to go in a pool/lake/ocean.

Respectfully, disagree. “Everything” shouldn’t have a date...it’s not necessary for certain pieces.

My Submariner has a date. My dress watch (an el-cheapo) does not have a date.

I'm good with that.

Price is wrong and it’s a slow night in Florida.

If you want a date, get a TUDOR chronograph. The Daytona in total is perfect without a date.

I prefer a sub without a date complication, especially in vintage. Dial balance is important for many as is simplicity.

The Daytona dial is so small and cluttered as it is, most can't read the time. I couldn't imagine adding a date function to it in it's present size (not a true 40mm)

Sorry don’t agree. These two references are perfect examples of watches that are better without a date

People w/o a date sub, saved a grand, and then at resale lost $2k plus. I would not consider a Tudor, as an acceptable or “like” type product to a Rolex.
Always date.... I broomed the Speedy Pro, and then bought a Speedy Broad Arrow, because it has a date, and was an automatic.
When I buy the VC, there going to give me a date, DJ 41, Sub Date, Day Date, all dates, always. I’m just surprised Rolex continues to offer a non date sub... like it is an introductory model, maybe it is...

I'm glad the daytona doesn't have the date, It would ruin the balance of the dial

But you can clearly have dial balance with a date. The VC Overseas chronographs with the big date at 12:00 and some watches have the date “hidden” at 6:00 within the sundial have great symmetry. People don’t complain about the symmetry of the crown and insist it should be at 12:00 instead of 3:00

I apologize if I was too hard on OP. I often pick a watch from the collection that doesn’t have a date so I don’t have to mess with setting the date. I bought the TT Rootbeer CHNR a couple days ago and so it prompted me to find this one and wear it. I’ve had it for 13 months and had never worn it. It doesn’t have a quick set date so I spent several minutes in church this morning advancing the date from the 7th to the 29th. I didn’t mind the process so much but even setting a quick set date is often something I don’t feel like doing.
CC4E7086-0C7C-4BCD-A8C2-73E9023FEB75.jpeg
If I’m signing something and I don’t know the date I have no problem saying, “what’s the date?”. About 1/2 of my watches are older including an older presidential DD that is a pain to set. I never wear the watch below because it’s not worth going through the process of setting it. I enjoy the look and design of a watch more than I enjoy the particular function of a watch.
