Patek 5146G vs. Daytona 116519LN

As a 40th birthday present to myself...which would you choose?

And I understand that they're drastically different watches...but a similar price when the PP is certified pre-owned and the Daytona is BNIB.

I don't have any "holes" in my collection; i.e. it's not that a I need a dress watch vs. a sport watch. I do have a Rolex already; but no PP currently. I'm tall and have big hands/wrists--so never been a huge dress watch fan, but also (despite the old Panerai) I don't like the XL over-sized trend of the past several years either.

The Rolex. I’d just be more worry free wearing it. I’d answer differently if we r talking 5205g13

5164 vs. 519 is a nice matchup - similar color schemes. I have both and not sure which I’d get rid of if forced. Premium on the 64 is enticing actually as probably don’t need both

Not a Rolex fan and never owned one but between those two I'd pick that Daytona.

I want to upgrade to the PP game, however between this comparison I'd go with the Daytona by a mile.

Different use watches in my opinion.

They're just such different watches. I really can't compare them. I think the 5146 is such a classic but it doesn't seem to fare well from a value preservation perspective, for whatever reason.

Hard to choose because they're so different, so why not both?

I have a 5146G and steel Daytona and like both. Not sure about a Daytona on a rubber strap, so I'm leaning towards the 5146G. Can you get the white gold, blue dial? That's a beautiful Daytona.

Also since you mention you have large wrists, make sure you try the 5146G first, I would describe it as a small watch compared to a Rolex.

Thanks--and agreed. Here's the 5146 on my wrist--looks and a feels pretty good.

@Both: My wife would freak out.

@WG/Blue Daytona: Difficult to come by, almost as bad as the YG/Green.

@5146G Value: I find that pre-owned they seem to stabilize in the $27K-$30K US range. Large drop from new.

@5164A: Grail watch. One day.

Thanks! The PP started out in the lead and now everyone (even despite this being a PP thread) is weighing toward the Daytona. Good food for thought--

I personally would wear the Daytona monumentally more, even though the Patek is a more impressive watch overall.

Support 5146G. A more refined watch as compared to Daytona.

Daytona. Not really a fan of the 5146 and love the panda dial on the Daytona.
