For me it would likely be:

Explorer 214270 $6550
Black Bay 58 $3700
Grand Seiko SBGW231 $4300

That gets you in under $15K even assuming you paid full retail for the Grand Seiko, which you probably wouldn't need to do.

Other options for that third, dressier piece would be a JLC Reverso medium small seconds (this would either need to be purchased pre-owned or at a nice discount) or a pre-owned 36mm Datejust.

Substitute the BB58 for a 114060 and you have my exact line of thinking right now for my future three piece collection.

Have to say I much prefer this exercise (3 for $15k) than the Hodinkee version (5 for $10k). Much more realistic and opens up a broader array of options. I haven't given it more than a couple minutes thought but would preface that I tend to stick to stainless steel sports models. Also going by MSRP as I've played the waiting game before and am willing to be patient. I suppose if the rules required market prices then that would make it much trickier. Here goes:

1. All around versatility - Rolex Explorer I ($6,550)
2. Diver - Tudor Black Bay 58 ($3,625)
3. Chronograph - Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch ($5,350)

For anyone doing the math, these three come out to $15,525 pre-tax. Hopefully the AD will ship it to me to avoid sales tax haha. And I'm thinking I would sell the Speedy Pro watch box for ~$500...believe I saw a forum sale recently in the zip code.

All in all, lots of solid three piece combo meal deals in other's postings.

This and what ever you want to buy with the remaining $1850.
