41st Anniversary of Apollo 11 - Let's see 'em

Today is the 41st anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11. Let's see those Pre-Moon Speedies!

Here is my 1966 Ref. 105-012, the same watch that a friend told me he wore on both his Gemini and Apollo missions:

Here's my 105.012 "Neil" watch:

I'm amazed! Omega has not issued a 41st Anniversary Speedy Pro.

This is my 50th Anniversary "Patch" Speedy. It sits on an original NASA Photo personally signed by Neil and Buzz

I guess it actually a photo of three speedmasters. One modern and two vintage.

Beautiful watches guys, I must admit I'm green with envy. The magic for me stopped with the 25th aniversary edition, after that Omega just started milking it too much. It is a much underrated watch, especially the pre-moon Speedies.

Here's my 1967. Now sits on a black NATO, to give it that velcro look.

What are the aesthetic differences between 3570.5 and the 50th Anniversary "Patch" Speedy. In all the Patch pictures, it looks so much more modern? is it only a illusion caused by the logo?

The difference between the "Patch" and the 3570.50 is the dial and the "Patch" version has a sapphire crystal. The 3570.50 has a Haselite crystal. The Patch also has First "& Only" Watch Worn on the Moon on the case back. This statement is not actually true and really irritates some Omega fans.

I hope that helps.

Since posting my 105.012 back in July, a couple more Speedy Pros have been added to the collection.

The first is one that returned home after being flipped back in 2008 to help fund my Explorer II. This one started out as a cal 861 movement from the early 1980s that was a gift from a friend:

My plans for building a special commemorative Speedy with it fell through but after having the movement restored, I built this one out of spare parts:

Then for Christmas, a "chocolate sandwich" arrived:

Although I have owned a couple of dozen Speedy Pros over the years, the "chocolate sandwich" was the first that was not pre-owned.
