Grand Seiko stock

So I go to a local AD that carries various brands one of which was Grand Seiko. Today I stopped by to check out what they had and to my surprise they no longer carried grand seiko. I asked sales rep why they no longer have Grand Seiko and she said that stock took too long to arrive. Has anyone else heard of something like this?

several dealers in socal seem to get the new references in without issue, and have pretty good stock. but they are on the bigger side.

I believe Gunderson's in Omaha were one of the first 3 or 4 dealers of GS in the USA, and it appears they are no longer carrying GS now as well.
Not sure what the reason is however.

I had another AD in Calgary tell me Grand Seiko is doing really well, so well in fact he doesn't have to do discounts to entice customers.

I believe it. Probably just regional thing for some. Just heard mine from one shop.

Honestly though I think the AD that stopped selling GS were forced to stop selling since they were never actually listed on the GS website as a authorized dealer.

If that was their complaint with GS, I assume Rolex is not one of their brands? :)

The AD in Vancouver told me no discounts on GS at all, so I would assume they are doing well here too.

No discounts seems the strategy from GS. Looks like ADs can decide to stick to Seiko only and get margins or become exclusive and GS but konservative discounts and stronger rules.
Due to the success of GS I totally understand this approach. Honestly, since most of the attractive items at Rolex are not available anyway I would be very surprised if that’s one of the main reasons that drives people over here, especially to the Grand.

FWIW ... I just received a call on 12/23 for a piece that I asked about in August. SA said it just arrived and I was the first on list of six for said model.

Haven't heard of this issue.

You might ask this of Christopher Alexopulos at Little Treasury Jewelers. They're a GS AD and their communication is excellent.

Both GS AD’s in Orlando Fl and the one in Ontario Canada that I frequent are loaded with stock.

An AD here by me recently (in the past year) dropped, or got dropped by GS.

Was sad, since they were local and they've sold GS for quite some time now.

Although there is another AD in a mall not too far, I've taken to driving down to Little Treasury in MD.

Last time I visited was right before the pandemic hit.

Greater NYC area generally has whatever you want in terms of current models.

It depends on the models here in Southern California. I was looking for the SBGA413 ( Spring Season ), 2 AD's don't have them in stock, they will need deposit to order ( 6 to 8 weeks ), 1 AD had 1 in stock but already reserved for 1 client.

it's all random. i had one dealer say in socal we don't need to discount them to sell them. they have had the same stock for years. most others discount 20% on any non LE with not much negotiating. there are enough dealers here though that it's not hard to find what you want. other cities probably harder with limited dealers. only problem with socal is getting into rolex AP journe patek. was a lot easier for me when i was in ohio so i guess there's that trade off.

I posted about a week ago about losing a GS AD.

Looks like my area here in NJ has lost all their ADs.

I'd have to go a bit away or venture in NYC.

Kinda disappointed.
