Grand Seiko SBGA231 or White Op39
Very random I know. Collection doesn’t “need” either. I’m stuck 50/50.

Depends, do you already have a Rolex? If so, choose the GS. If you don't, you better scratch the Rolex itch now.

I’ve got Rolex yes. No grand Seikos. But some nice ones like the MM300. Rolex is mostly sportier models though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Tell me a bit more about yourself, your collection and what gap you're looking to fill before I recommend you buy the rolex.

Those are completely different watches. Do you want a dive watch (GS) or a everyday watch (Rolex)? If you want to dig into the GS world, which I suggest might I recommend the SBGH273?

The OP is just so perfect, easily the most worn watch in my collection

Life is short, funds are limited.
You can stay in the "safe zone" and just keep on the Rolex. Or venture out and try a new piece. Depends on you. |

I like OP39s all dials and my preference vs most anything in its price range. Heck all OPs, but my preference for my wrist is 39

If your wrist can carry the GS, then go for it. These days Seiko tend to make their watches a little bigger than your normal manufacturer. The fit and finish is really amazing. But the OP39 is really more versatile in terms of wearability. So it is quite the toss up...go try them both on and see which sings to you more.

The Grand Seiko is more interesting to stare at, but it wears very dressy. What about a SBGA413? It wears like a 39mm watch, is very light and comfortable (titanium) and brings all the "dial drama" that only GS can do:

Grand Seiko watches are great, but be aware that their US service center is not highly regarded. You will probably want to send your watch to Japan for service if you choose it.

Tough. Two VERY different watches. GS you are comparing too is insaneee. Just too big IMO. Also that dial on the Rolex is so nice (tough to talk up a Rolex dial when comparing to GS), but the OP is just that special IMO.
I’d 100% go OP here. |

Op is more versatile.
Great looking in person too.

Gs vs op, I would say gs without a doubt, I'm a rolex fanboy but gs is another level.

I'd vote for GS. I got my first one about a week and a half ago and am enamored with it. I'm not a big fan of the OP line in general, though.

I like the size and simplicity of the OP39 - much like the majority here as well.
If you are looking to add a GS to the collection may I suggest the SBGW231? I think that is a classy and simple you can add to the line up! |

If you don't already have a DD, explorer I, DJ of any sort, or OP already, get the OP definitely

I'm definitely a fan of GS but I find that their divers are unsightly. I've never liked the look of the hour hand and minute hand. The case design and proportions are really chunky too, and not in a good way. Not to mention that awful clasp.

If I already had a Rolex I would probably get the GS.

Thanks guys for the great inputs, a lot to think about! I probably should have provided more information on my collection - I didn't because I was afraid you would tell me to get neither!
Basically, I've got many Rolex including a White Milgauss and an Explorer 1 t-rex hands (which I love so don't hate!). That plus your typical divers/GMTs etc. I do not have a datejust or plain OP. On the Seiko side, I've got many nice prospex divers in different colors and the MM 300. But no grand seiko. I keep thinking about the White OP 39 and wanting to add it, but then every time I get some cash together I wind up going with something else over it. Don't know why. Maybe because I feel it competes with the White Milgauss, maybe because I feel I need to chill out on the Rolex already. So then I said okay let me look at the Grand Seiko Snowflake for something different. But there's just something off about it for me. I can't bring myself to get it. And I'm always loving divers more than anything. So I said let me see what Grand Seiko has to offer in that department and it led me to the SBGA231. So in terms of gaps in my collection, I'm not sure there are any glaring ones - it's more just adding another piece. But if I had to say gaps would be no plain pure white watch, nothing dressy, and nothing grand seiko (the top of my fav brand). FYI I'm also considering the datejust 36mm silver with fluted bezel and oyster bracelet. But I'm not sure that is my style. |

^ with that background, you’re right, I do think you should get neither.
I think the OP would get lost in your collection, while the GS you mentioned is a bit redundant with your Rolex sports watches. How about the SBGP015 (new 60th anniversary LE 9F model) or SBGA413 (“Spring” model from the US “Seasons” collection)? |
