GS diver SBGA231G

Hello TRFers,

I was researching about this watch and read that the bezel insert is steel with a black hardcoating treatment. I was wondering how scratch-resistant the bezel is compared to ceramic bezels. Any additional information on how the bezel is constructed and how the bezel numerals are printed would be great!

Also, how does the zaratsu polishing hold up against scratches?

Thanks in advance and a gratuitous picture of the said watch taken at our local AD!

I have the SBGA231. It’s a gorgeous watch and nice to wear. The clasp is a bit bulky but you get used to it. My clasp is scratched up badly as it gets banged quite often with its thickness. The bezel will scratch and mine has a couple of small scratches. It’s tough but not as scratch proof as ceramic.
The zaratsu polishing will mark fairly easily as well. I’m not the best guy to ask as I’m hard on my watches. I wear them for everything I do. I buy them to wear not to look at.
The timekeeping is spectacular and I love the look and feel of the watch. My sage advice would be to get it and don’t worry about scratches. You may find a good price on a gently used one too.
Good luck with your choice!

The numerals are engraved in the metal and then filled with paint. Because the bezel is solid metal it will not shatter like ceramics.
