Life After COVID- 19?

When does everyone think we will be at least somewhat back to normal from COVID19? I will classify normal as:

*Regular Travel resuming
*Restaurants/Bars/Gyms/Barbershops, etc open again
*Lockdowns lifted
*People back at work(I suspect a lot of companies will keep a work at home model for many reasons, but thats another topic)

We will not go back fully to the old normal ever, but was curious others take on when we will be out of the nightmare.

End of May. I do think at some point though this will not be a country-wide decision to come out from quarantine. I believe some areas will start coming back before others.

It was my mom's birthday over the weekend. Drove over to my parents house to drop off a small gift that arrived for her. Visited for a bit -- was very difficult to not given her a hug but wanted to keep adequate distance for their own protection.

Interesting question. But I think your last sentence is the answer.

How do you define regular traveling? If it means the lifting of bans to and from certain areas, that would be one date. It it means airlines packed to the gills with no social distancing and no screening for symptoms, I would say a long time. If it means cruises ships, I would say a long, long time.

Same question on Restaurants, etc. I you mean gradual re-opening with precautions and new social distancing, one date. If you mean packed bars and restaurants, it may be quite a different date.

And it may also depend on how bad the area was hit.

Stay safe.

Hopefully agree with end of may, in my business we are trying to schedule depositions to pick back up in June/July/August period. But who knows?

Feel for you on your mom. We are really missing social interaction with family also.

Stay safe.

75% normal from June onwards, but with occasional flare-ups locally. People will be hesitant to fully embrace their old lives, restaurants, bars etc, for quite a while yet. Once the vaccine has been rolled out, life will drift back to normal. People have short memories. And, within 2-3 years the economy and markets will be booming.

Agree, but I'd change the month to August.

I tend to agree and hope you're right. I've got an IMSA race at the Glen the end of June that I'm hoping to attend !

My guess is we will start easing back into life outside the house around the end of May...though there will still be social distancing practices being followed and I think it will be staged depending on what state you live in. For example, the Virginia governor has a stay home order in place through 10 June...my guess is we will know more in 2-3 weeks from now.

I don't think that most things will be back to normal before the end of August. I also think that most will have to wear masks of some sort till at least the end of the year.

I’m hoping by June 1st as that is when I’m scheduled to start my new job after graduation but honestly I’m not sure. I guess we’ll see what happens.

Somewhat normal is going to vary a lot depending on how each individual is affected.

Along time is my guess ... but throwing out dates is useless at this point, again just my opinion.

This is my thought as well. Things will have to come back gradually to keep things from getting back to where we are now again.

However, if either an effective vaccine is developed within a year from when all of this started, or enough people develop heard immunity( because I suspect a lot more people had had this symptom free and recovered than people realize), that could potentially speed things up. I just read today that the FDA approved an antibody test for COVID 19.

I don't see a lot of anti-vaxxing threads like I did in the past.

Dave I fear you may be right about the uk. I had hoped that kids would return for the last part of the school Term in June, and we might start seeing some normality, but who knows. There’s lots of things that don’t seem to add up.

I think it is awful, So much suffering. Many families will remember this year because of the loss of loved ones, many people will be financially ruined, I don't doubt that there will be some from TRF that will fall into that category, many will have lost their jobs and livelihoods and wonder how they will pay mortgages and feed their families and many towns and city centres will have lost their heart of small shops and restaurants.

How things have changed in just a month.

Some countries, USA, UK, Australia, have not hit their "peak" yet so it is hard to see how everything would be back to "normal" before 1 September at the earliest.
N.B. The Stockmarket and the state thereof should not be regarded as any sort of indicator of "normal" as it is a law unto itself and the forces that manipulate it.

That's the saddest thing I've read today.

Being the selfish SOB that I am, I hope it's before then. My brother and I have plans to fly to England and ride motorcycles through England, Scotland and Wales first of August. I fell in love with those places last year and my brother's never been.

There would be absolutely nothing left to go back to buy August. Even if everything went back to normal next week the amount of damage already done it’s too massive to even calculate. If we’re going to wait to August we might as well just shut down for two years. Because after another couple weeks it just won’t matter anymore.

There will no old normal, only new normal.

Things will open up once we can get the transmission rate way below 1 across the country. Timing will depend on how all the states handle their outbreaks especially given the current lack of cohesion.

The next milestone will be a vaccine that will allow people to travel and congregate in large groups comfortably.

Can you all imagine the tension and potential for conflict for the foreseeable future when someone starts coughing in economy class?

A simple case of the sniffles will create paranoia and derision.

I guess I'm not too optimistic about the near to mid term.

August, trying to be optimistic. Especially in my hometown, NYC. When that day comes, I would love NYC to have a parade down the “Canyon of Hero’s.” For ALL medical, emergency, and staff workers. I miss my “ Concrete Jungle” and I pray for the day NYC gets back on its feet.. And WE WILL.

I am trying to imagine entertainment, sports, retail and travel sectors getting back to what we consider normal. I just can't see it for some time. Suspect when these sectors come back, they have morphed into something different from our previous experiences.
