Who Has Noticed They're Back??

I am talking about the NHL. My first love when it comes to sports is and has always been hockey. To me it has everything and that is why I love it so much. I grew up playing in Seattle, actually British Columbia, from the time I was 3 and played right up till deciding between it and baseball for college.

Well the demand for 5'10" Hawaiian kids in either profession is not real high, LOL!! But I played well enough to have scholarship offers and professional interest. I have not put on my skates since the very day I signed my letter of intent to play college baseball, but I still miss it!!

One of my closest friends has season tickets to the Stars games so we go almost weekly, Dylan loves it.

I really can't wait for the playoffs, as that is when the real stuff starts. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed the boys are all back on the ice?

You know what? I have not missed baseball since the last game I played at U of Hawaii either.

Uh, Daren - did you forget that you have a few Canadians on this board? It was probably the biggest news in Canada when the season started up again, eh!?...

Go Leafs!!

Not sure if John is now a Senators fan since moving to Ottawa.....

Funny you say that. The Sens have been my #2 fave team in the NHL AFTER the Leafs. I'm a life-long Leaf fan and now my buddy's cousin is playing for them, so it's even better (and he's playing better than he has in years... guess who?).

GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO, GO LEAFS GO!

Close. It's actually Mr. Glass Jaw himself, Lindros. He's playing really, really well. All the Leafs have to do is get a couple of good players (like a Roberts or a Niewendike) and they'll take Lord Stanley's cup next spring.

C'mon Bruce, they aren't sticks, they are brooms!

And, we already have a sport played on ice where people beat the crap out of each other - hint - it's the subject of this thread........

Hey don't blame curling on Canada. The bloody Scots invented it. There's just so many of us Scots over here that it's become a past-time of the morbidly obese alcoholics.

If they want to give curling an X-treme edge, why not stage competitions on glaciers and have the rocks explode on impact. That would get me watching!

I actually watched a bunch of curling in the last winter olympics, it was entertaining listen to them yell at the things.

He may have a glass jaw, but that is only because he likes to cross the blue line with his head down.

I would take that bad boy on my team anyday of the week.

I know, I know... and I agree he's really good. I had a chance to interview him about 15 years ago when I was a reporter, and he was a supreme A-hole. My buddy says big E is "misunderstood"... yeah whatever.

BTW Daren, you and Lindos have similar tastes in watches. His daily driver is a Rolesium YM.

And going back to damned curling... I hate it cuz I can't count how many times over the years that CBC has pre-empted or cancelled bicycle road racing because curling went longer than expected. Bloody hell!!!! It's on all friggin' winter long. Cycling races on TV in Canada are rare as hen's teeth!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

He is actually a person who is risking his future to act as a normal person by playing. He is one concussion away from being a frikin vegatable.

HURRRRRY!!! HARD!! HURRRRRY!!! HARD!!!

Yes, the shouting can get interesting......

Seriously, curling is a lot tougher than it looks. We went to our local clubs open house one year, but I personally would have a difficult time getting down low enough to get in the hack.....the hack is where they push off from, by the way.

OMG!!

That was it, HURRRRRY!! I was walking around for weeks yelling that.

I am not knocking it though, I am sure I would royally suck at trying to show the touch those dudes do.

Al's right... there is a certain skill to it. But it has about as much draw for me as watching an apple turn brown.

If you can find it in your video store, look for Men With Brooms. It's a Canadian film starring Paul Gross (of Due South fame) and Leslie Neilsen (of Aiplane, Naken Gun, etc)... and it's about 4 guys in a big curling competition.

Not the best from the Great White North, but still an amusing little film. It also guest stars the guy who plays Anson in the Chris Isaak Show, as a curler.

I just got one of my Doctor buddies tickets for Satuday night against Iginla and the Flames. The three of us and one of Andies teacher friends is going with us. I am excited as this is my first game this year. It will also be Dylans first hockey game in person.
