What the ferk are those clever boys and girls doing with the greatest icon of masculinity - Homer J Simpson?

To appeal to the Arab market he is having his name changed to Omar, being dubbed, and having to do with "soda pop" rather than Duff beer.


I totally despair.

They are also worried about the vicar and the Jewish clown. All I can say is "Hey HEYYYYY" Going to church on a Sunday will be out as well.

If they want our icon (I use the term "our" loosely as it really is an Uncle Sam production) then they should take it as it was intended. If it offends your sensibilities then don't bleedin' watch it. What a load of crap that they want a cartoon about a slob yank who loves beer, bacon and donuts (why donuts have to go I still cannot fathom) but we must remove the yank accent, beer, bacon and donuts please WTF.

Total 8ollox GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Morning old chap, re. the bacon.....Muslims don't eat it (but as far as I know they are aware that other people do), so taking it out makes Homer more Muslim, I suppose wonder if Marge going to wear a burka???

What really worries me is that the producers may actually start to modify stories and characters with a global message and acceptability standard in mind. We may end up with a cartoon version of Last of the Summer Wine

I think if I was head of production, I could have soooo much fun with the arabic transformation. heh, heh, heh! But then it would be waaay too non-PC for arabic TV.

As much as I love the Simpsons, I'm watching The Family Guy more these days. But then again, I can watch the Simpsons at least once an hour all day long (thanks to sat TV). It would be very interesting to hear from an arab who sees the new production, who is very familiar with the original Simpsons to hear how they've um, changed it.

It just makes the Simpson's creator that much richer tho.
